Feb 11, 2013 · State Attorney Harry Shorstein decided to prosecute the case. During the trial, Butler testified that two detectives involved in the investigation, including Michael Glover, son of the then current Sheriff Nat Glover, had intimidated and physically abused him into confessing.
Feb 23, 2018 · State Attorney Harry Shorstein and Sheriff Nat Glover did admit after the fact that Butler had been wrongfully arrested and charged.
If you didn’t follow the trial itself, you most likely saw the Oscar-winning documentary, “Murder on a Sunday Morning,” about the trial of Brenton Butler , a 15-year-old boy who was accused of the murder of a woman in Jacksonville, Florida on May 7, 2000.
The victim, Mary Ann Stephens, was shot in the head at point-blank range. When the police arrived at the scene, her husband described the man who ran away with her purse - over 6ft tall, 20-25, skinny. About 2 ½ hours after the murder, Butler was walking nearby in the same neighborhood.
