Chicana/o studies, also known as Chican@ studies, originates from the Chicano Movement of the late 1960s and 1970s, and is the study of the Chicana/o and Latina/o experience. Chican@ studies draws upon a variety of fields, including history, sociology, the arts, and Chican@ literature.
CMAS majors pursue careers in education, museum studies and the cultural arts, non-profit management, social work, public health, as well as law and politics. The CMAS program also prepares students for graduate education in the social sciences and humanities.

In Mexican American Studies, students learn about the history and cultural contributions of Mexican Americans. Students will explore history and culture from an interdisciplinary perspective. They will have opportunities to interact with relevant film, literature, art, and other media.
