From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. " The Defense Rests " is the fourteenth episode of the second season of the American television police sitcom series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It is the 36th overall episode of the series and is written by Prentice Penny & Matt O'Brien and directed by Jamie Babbit.
However, when Jake goes to the restroom, he finds Geoffrey snorting cocaine and arrests him. An upset Sophia arrives at the precinct, planning to defend Geoffrey.
It aired on Fox in the United States on January 25, 2015. The show revolves around the fictitious 99th precinct of the New York Police Department in Brooklyn and the officers and detectives that work in the precinct.
In its original American broadcast, "The Defense Rests" was seen by an estimated 2.79 million household viewers and gained a 1.2/3 ratings share among adults aged 18–49, according to Nielsen Media Research. This was a 16% decrease in viewership from the previous episode, which was watched by 3.29 million viewers with a 1.5/4 in the 18-49 demographics. This means that 1.2 percent of all households with televisions watched the episode, while 3 percent of all households watching television at that time watched it. With these ratings, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was the third most watched show on FOX for the night, beating Bob's Burgers, but behind Family Guy and The Simpsons, fourth on its timeslot and seventh for the night, behind CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Undercover Boss, Family Guy, The Simpsons, America's Funniest Home Videos, and Miss Universe 2014 .
Now that Andy Samberg' s days of playing detective Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine are over, the actor is working on several upcoming projects. The next chance viewers will have to see Samberg is as himself as a host of a baking competition series with Maya Rudolph, Baking It. The Peacock game cooking show does not have a confirmed release date. Samberg is also set to voice Dale in Disney's live-action/CGI-hybrid Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers movie. He'll also provide the voice of Captain Valentine in 2K's 2022 video game Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Stephanie Beatriz has a busy schedule ahead after Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Her first role after playing Rosa Diaz will be as the lead of Disney's 2021 animated movie Encanto. Beatriz plays Mirabel Madrigal, the lone member of a magical family born without any special gifts. She's also in Netflix's 2021 animated series Maya and the Three, where she plays Chimi. Brooklyn 99 quickly won over its audience when it debuted in 2013, with the goofy and lovable Detective Jake Peralta leading the fight against New York City's underworld, with the help of Captain Raymond Holt, Sergeant Terry Jeffords, and his rag-tag group of fellow detectives.
However, the big-bad federal agents just want to make fun of the lowly cops and the 99 decide to fight back by taking over the entire drill and wiping out nearly all of the agents in the process. The Die-Hard move at the end was a cheap-shot, by the way.
The case quickly turns into a triple-murder homicide that involves taking a helicopter to an abandoned barn upstate and discovering the $21 million in a safe in a basement. Be honest, that doesn't sound like your typical comedy-show premise.
The 99th precinct ran into some serious internal problems during this episode with the revelation that they had a mole leaking sensitive information from within their own walls and had a lieutenant from Internal Affairs show up to investigate.
Despite the fact that they took down the bad-guy and Jake and Amy kissed for the first time, the episode seemed to be ending with a heart-wrenching moment with Captain Holt forced out of the 99. Luckily the wound was satiated by Jake and Amy kissing, for real, after his untimely departure. Noice.
Despite his escape a year earlier, Doug Judy shows up just in time for Christmas and gets himself caught by Jake and Rosa, only to set up a deal for his freedom by giving up the head GigglePig distributor in the city. In typical Pontiac Bandit fashion, the deal was a double-cross and Judy escapes once again.
On the one hand, we were all still rooting for Jake and Amy to get together - but on the other hand, Sophia was a really, really good fit for Jake. Jake and Amy's relationship seemed to be at a complete stand-still by this point in the season with Amy firmly established in her relationship with Teddy, so Jake decided to test his luck in the dating pool.
In The Defense Rests, it's revealed he stopped giving Sophia cases because she is dating a cop. Trying to get on his good side, Jake manages to bond with him over betting on simple things. He excuses himself to go to the bathroom where later Jake catches him doing cocaine. He is then arrested by Jake for drug use.
Chris Parnell, the actor who plays Geoffrey, also appeared on SNL where he and Samberg did the rap sketch "Lazy Sunday" in 2006. He only considers 2 out of his 3 children beautiful. He is addicted to a variety of drugs including cocaine, crystal meth, and angel dust.
Hoytsman makes Jake deliver a fake confession on camera under gunpoint, thereby framing Peralta for everything Hoytsman did. In the middle of talking to Jake, he hears a voice from outside the truck. Thinking it's a sale, he opens the window only to be pulled out by Rosa .
In the wake of uprisings in response to the racist police murders of Ahmad Arbury, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, cast members donated $100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network in support of protesters. But it’s not enough.
Sumaia Masoom is the proud daughter of Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants and a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Education & Social Policy. A product of rural Wisconsin and later the Chicago immigrant & refugee rights organizing community, she's equal parts passionate about college sports and diversity & inclusion – of identities, em-dashes, and free food in lunch meetings.
Brooklyn 99 is arguably fairly progressive, especially with regards to the representation offered by the characters: about half of the main leads are people of color, and precinct Captain Holt’s (Andre Braugher) identity as a gay Black detective in an interracial relationship is at the center of multiple episode storylines.
Season 2 of the British drama “Broadchurch” premiered Wednesday on BBC America with a familiar face: Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who was an Oscar nominee (as Best Supporting Actress) for “Secrets & Lies” and played Vivian Johnson on CBS’ “Without a Trace.”
On “Broadchurch,” Jean-Baptiste plays Sharon Bishop, the attorney defending Joe Miller — who, in last season’s finale, confessed to killing 10-year-old Danny Latimer in the sleepy English seaside town of Broadchurch.
