On July 5, 2011, a 12-member jury filed into an Orlando courtroom to render their verdict against Casey Anthony, who was on trial for first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. As the seven women and five men prepared to hand the verdict to the bailiff, Anthony, then 25, was breathing heavily and blinking back tears.
After 90 witnesses and 33 days of testimony in the courtroom, the jurors began to deliberate. “We took a vote on the [four] charges of lying to police,” the male juror said. “And it came back 12-0 to convict. That didn’t take long at all.”
A 33-year-old single gym teacher, he earned the name “Johnny Depp” from some of the courthouse staff due to his good looks. In an interview after the trial, he said that the prosecution failed to prove their case — and that George and Cindy Anthony’s testimony was problematic.
Sadly, in December 2011, Caylee’s remains were found alongside a blanket in a garbage bag in a wooded area near Casey’s home. At the time, duct tape was also discovered, but there are still debates about whether or not it was found near the skull or near the mouth of the child.
Casey has been estranged from her parents since the trial, which is understandable — considering, at one point during the trial, Casey claimed that her father sexually abused her as a child. When Casey spoke in a rare interview with the Associated Press about the claim, Casey’s parents said they were “hurt” by it.
In October 2008, Casey was charged with first-degree murder, just months before her daughter’s skeletal remains were found in a trash bag.
Today, Casey works for her own company. She launched a private investigation firm in Florida in December 2020, according to documents obtained by The Daily Mail.
On Oct. 14, 2008, Casey Anthony was accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony. The severity of the accusations against the mother caused a media frenzy. For many of us, Casey Anthony became a household name when the details of her case hit the airwaves.
Casey’s parents became worried for their granddaughter’s safety after not seeing her for a month. After relentlessly questioning Casey, she admitted that she had not seen her own daughter for over a month.
