While Weezer has stood the test of time and is now considered a perfectly legitimate band, Rolling Stone tells us things weren't quite that happy when the group took its first steps in the scene.
A lot of the "Weezer is a misogynist band" accusations focus on the group's second album, Pinkerton, which indeed contains some pretty offensive lyrics. According to Rolling Stone, though, Cuomo did address them before the album even came out via a message to the band's fan club.
After debuting with their self-titled Blue Album in 1994, the band has released 11 total albums including several hit singles. The band has also demonstrated its fluency in online culture by including memes in their music videos on more than one occasion. Weezer formed in Los Angeles, California in 1992 with Matt Sharpe on bass. [1]

The musical follows and is based upon the true-life story of 16-year-old British schoolboy Jamie Campbell, as he overcomes prejudice and bullying to step out of the darkness and become a drag queen.
43. Weezer wrote and recorded over two dozen songs before heading out on a tour in 2000, but only three of those songs — "Hash Pipe," "Dope Nose," and "Slob" — made it to an album release. The rest of the tracks were released for free on a fan site in 2001.
The Weezer frontman has long used algorithms to optimize his songwriting, funneling creativity through computer programs like the programming language Python. Cuomo is known to carefully dismantle a hit song, examining each element to find out exactly what works, and apply that knowledge to his own writing process.
Both the West End musical and the film version of Everybody's Talking About Jamie are inspired by the true story of Jamie Campbell, a gay, British teenager who was forbidden by his school from wearing a dress to his prom.
Richard's characterisation of Loco Chanelle was based on a real drag queen. Richard: "Jonathan introduced me to a drag artist named David Hoyle who is around the same age as me. His success was in another decade, so he had all the vulnerability and melancholy of somebody who has had success at an earlier time.

According to AllMusic, most 1990s emo bands "borrowed from some combination of Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Weezer". The New York Times described emo as "emotional punk or post-hardcore or pop-punk.

In recent years, however, Rivers has leaned heavily on two of the original Warmoth replacement guitars – a Sonic Blue model that's primarily a backup, and his go-to weapon of choice, the sticker-covered Seafoam Green guitar he refers to in Back To The Shack as 'The Strat with the lightning Strap'.

There are definitely some problematic moments, such as No One Else, a lot of Pinkerton, and the usage of the f-slur in Dope Nose, however I would argue that you have to take context into account, such as the time and River’s emotional state.
When Weezer made their grand entrance with their nameless debut known as the Blue Album, their Pixies-style, alt-rock sound was so fully formed that it's easy to imagine that songwriter Rivers Cuomo grew up with this kind of music. However, as Rolling Stone tells us, this couldn't be further from the truth. Not long before Weezer became, well, Weezer, Cuomo used to think that bands like the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, and the Pixies sounded like "noise" and "garbage." Instead, his musical taste ran towards metal, with a secret fascination with Madonna-style pop.
In a small, strange way, Weezer as we know it was brought to you by none other than Keanu Reeves. As Spin tells us, their first gig was in 1992, and they played as part of the lineup with Reeves' band Dogstar.

When you think of a rock band from Los Angeles, Weezer is pretty much the last thing that fits the image. Yet the years have proven the group to be one of the more enduring bands to emerge from the city's ever-boiling rock 'n' roll scene. Their combination of great songs, self-consciously nerdy image, and kooky, self-deprecating brand of humor has helped the band stay relevant (or at least visible) since its conception in 1992, save for a small hiatus at the turn of the millennium. It's also enabled them to do pretty much what they want musically. After all, what other rock group can believably flirt with heavy metal riffs, chirpy pop, abrasive alt-rock sound, and even Toto's Africa while remaining completely on brand?
The first true Weezer song Rivers Cuomo ever wrote was "Undone — The Sweater Song," as Rolling Stone tells us. It was also released as the band's debut single in 1994. Strangely, though, it wasn't exactly an original song. As Cuomo himself will tell you, it was quite the opposite.
His tenure was short-lived, as he left Weezer in 2001 in the aftermath of a mental breakdown. Still, he remains a visible and important part of the Weezer history thanks to his presence on the band's Green Album and its hit songs, "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun."
According to the Weezer main man, "Undone — The Sweater Song" was a conscious attempt to write a song that would evoke a Velvet Underground vibe, seeing as he was a massive fan of Lou Reed's group.
"Undone" is one of Weezer's most popular songs. The track reached 57 on the US Billboard Hot 100 List of 1994. Allmusic.com gave "Undone" a 5 star rating and also named it an "AMG Track Pick."
Cover of the European Retail CD. " Undone - The Sweater Song " is the first single ever released by Weezer. It was the fifth track and first single from Weezer (The Blue Album) .
The video marks one of the early directorial efforts of Spike Jonze, whose pitch was simply "A blue stage, a steadicam, a pack of wild dogs.". The $60,000 video was shot on a steadicam in one unbroken take, featuring the band playing to a sped up version of the song.
The distinct guitar tone for the "Undone" intro came out of a specific section of The Blue Album recording process, during which Cuomo and original guitarist Jason Cropper spent a few days in the attic of Electric Ladyland studios focusing only on the record's guitar parts [2] .
How most of the world has introduced to the band. The reign of Spike Jonze begins here! This was roughly take 15 or 20 out of about 25. By this point the band had abandoned hope of doing a serious take, and thank goodness!

On February 28th, 2019, Epic Games unveiled a "Weezer Island" in the game's Creative Mode at the launch of Fortnite's 8th season. [10] The following day, Weezer tweeted about the announcement (shown below).
The tweet became a joke campaign, and Noisey interviewed the fan, a 14-year old girl named Mary, behind the account. [5] In May of 2018, Weezer responded, first with a cover of "Rosanna" by Toto, then "Africa (shown below).
Weezer formed in Los Angeles, California in 1992 with Matt Sharpe on bass. [1] Their debut self-titled album, dubbed by fans The Blue Album, went quadruple platinum, making it their best selling record in the US. It featured hits including "Undone (The Sweater Song)," "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So." Their 1996 follow-up, Pinkerton, did not sell as well, but became a fan favorite over the following two decades. After a hiatus, the band returned with another self-titled album dubbed The Green Album in 2001. Around this time, Scott Shriner joined the band. Follow-up records include Make Believe, which included the single "Beverly Hills," The Red Album, Raditude, Hurley, Everything Will Be Alright In the End, The White Album and Pacific Daydream.
On January 24th, 2019 , Weezer surprise-released The Teal Album, an album of covers with their "Africa" cover as the first track. [9] The full tracklist is as follows:
Critics and fans generally agree that the band made significantly worse music after Pinkerton, with Raditude also being cited as a low point for the group. [2] [3]
But in all reality they were very active. With rivers writing good songs but it not getting out to the people because the music channels were constantly playing Drake and skrillex. Rivers had to go out of his comfort zone and try making a new kind of music to reach the people. Some of it worked and some of it didn't work as well.
Weezer is a pretty simple, conventional rock band... they write guitar-driven, four-piece pop songs, usually with clean verses and distorted choruses with a solo and/or bridge (a songwriting structure and quiet/loud dynamic which Pixies are often credited with popularizing, if not inventing). They even covered the Pixies song "Velouria" practically note-for-note. Teenage Fanclub is another a great band that likely had an influence on Weezer. Apart from them, Sloan sounds remarkably like Weezer (and pre-dates them by a couple years). They're kind of like Weezer’s Canadian counterpart. Also look
When Cuomo sings, "You've cleaned up, found Jesus," he's referring to his dad's religious epiphany: Frank became a Pentecostal preacher. Years later, Rivers enjoyed watching videos of his father's sermons, which often incorporated music (Frank was a professional drummer). This helped Rivers come to terms with his insecurities on stage - he never looked like a rock star and sometimes felt like he didn't belong on stage, but seeing his father do it helped Rivers realize that he had a genetic gift for performing.
My opinion is weezer is not bad now at all. Actually there starting to come out with great new music. They were trying new things and I like most all of it. Rivers was writing good music but wasn't making it on the charts and you could tell it was frustrating him. The music world took a sharp right, rihht out of the grunge and garage style music and in to a skrillex dub step world. And the hit pop style songs were no longer making the charts.
As a Weezer fan going back the early 90’s Blue album, I can almost definitely say that Rivers Cuomo and Patrick Wilson (original members still in the band) and Brian Bell who joined early on during recording of the Blue album are definitely not hurting for money.
This song is a cathartic one for Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, who takes out his family frustrations in the lyric. He wrote the music for the song and had the title, but didn't know what the song would be about until he remembered an incident when he came home from high school and found a bottle of beer in the refrigerator belonging to his stepfather ("Somebody's Heine' is crowdin' my icebox").
Bass player Matt Sharp sang the falsetto vocals on The Blue Album, which is probably most easily recognizable on this song. These were, oddly enough, the first notes Sharp sang in front of anyone.
