To me, three things appeal: concept of the killing game alone, concept of ultimate students and multiple characters being really fun and rememberable. And it currently hinges on this, because just as many characters are great, many are also terrible or just plain boring, and this series definitely doesn't stand on its overall plot.

The Bad: All five cases in AAI connect into the overarching plot of the game, including this one, but this felt like the one I took the least seriously. And that’s including the one set in an AMUSEMENT PARK. Your assistants in this case are not as cool as Gumshoe or Kay Faraday, and there is just something lacking here compared to the other four cases.
The Good: I do like Apollo’s interior monologue a lot. Not better than Phoenix, per se, but Apollo’s sense of humor is just very, very dry, so his thoughts on this are often hilarious. This is also a great set-up for introducing him to Athena, since we did not establish a connection between them in the game’s first case. Plus, this is the first appearance of Simon Blackquill.
The Good: AAI’s finale is one of the toughest and most complex cases in the entire series. Finally cracking the case is, truly, exhilarating. You feel confident, and cool, and successful, the strokes to your ego that suggest you are, er, that Miles is the Steel Samurai build you up. There are so many throwbacks to other games, too, and hilarious moments that wrap this case up into a wonderful package. And that final showdown? Hoo weeeee.
The Good: This case established, quickly, that this series is not going to do what you expect. Whether it’s goofy leaps of logic, outrageous character, improbable scenarios or truly heartbreaking moments, like the loss of Mia immediately after winning your first case, the Ace Attorney games are unpredictable and wonderful to play, and we learned that early on.
The Bad: There’s just something about this cases in the middle of the game. They are semi-related to the plot, but there’s just something that keeps them from living up to the whole, overarching story of each game. This one is no different, it’s funny and very playable, but the stakes for the main characters aren’t nearly as high.
The Good: Want to know a secret? This is the only case in the series that brought me to actual, real life tears. This is not a full-length case, but it goes on long enough to see just how much Dahlia destroyed Terry Fawles and her own sister in her selfish pursuits. Fawles killing himself at the end is the most heart-wrenching moment of the entire series for me, and I almost dread playing this case now because it’s so emotional.
