Johnson was quickly sworn in as president on Air Force One in Dallas on November 22, 1963, just two hours and eight minutes after John F. Kennedy was assassinated, amid suspicions of a conspiracy against the government.

Lyndon Baines Johnson (/ ˈlɪndən ˈbeɪnz /; August 27, 1908 – January 22, 1973), often referred to by his initials LBJ, was the 36th president of the United States, serving from 1963 to 1969. He had previously served as the 37th vice president from 1961 to 1963 under President John F. Kennedy.
The nearby small town of Johnson City, Texas, was named after LBJ's cousin, James Polk Johnson, whose forebears had moved west from Georgia. Johnson had English, German, and Ulster Scots ancestry. His patrilineal descent traces back to John Johnson, born in Dumfriesshire, Scotland in 1590.

Though he left office with low approval ratings, polls of historians and political scientists tend to have Johnson ranked as an above-average president. His domestic programs transformed the United States and the role of the federal government, and many of his programs remain in effect today.

Percy Foreman: “I didn’t get him to change the plea. [Laughing] I simply told him that I thought he would be executed if he didn’t.”
Percy Foreman did not need to follow his usual practices in his “defense” of James Earl Ray, because, in that case, as it has now become clear, his objective was never to serve Ray’s interests in getting a fair trial. It was about ensuring Lyndon B. Johnson’s and J. Edgar Hoover’s interests – that Ray would never receive a trial at all, specifically one that had any element of fairness. His real mission was to ensure that Ray would spend the rest of his life in prison, and his success in achieving that goal was proven when James Earl Ray died, on April 23, 1998, after having spent his last thirty years in prison. This construct would also explain the reason for the first step taken by Judge Woodward a year earlier — to separate Foreman from the rest of the defendants — was so that he could be given “special” treatment without involving the others.
Foreman marshals an oratorical expertise nurtured as a lecturer on the Chautauqua circuit , where he shared platforms in small towns with Cossack dancers and Swiss bellringers. “If you didn’t talk for two and a half hours, people thought they were cheated.”
The investigation subsequently resulted in the indictment of the Hunt brothers for violations of Federal wiretapping laws. The indictment said the group attempted to influence potential witnesses in the earlier case through bribes and veiled threats of physical harm and death .
Nelson and Herbert were indicted on wiretapping charges, but only after a curiously long-time lag. They have since admitted that they ordered “legal investigations” of Rothermel and the other executives, but not wiretaps. They contend their motive was not to spy on their father’s will-making, but to trace millions of dollars which were allegedly siphoned off into dummy companies. They backed up their charges with a suit against Rothermel and two other company officials. Since then Kelly has sued Nelson and W. Herbert Hunt, complaining they ruined his reputation and career.
He was definitely a nefarious character with all the right connections that served LBJ well.
It is true that strong circumstantial evidence is lacking on the alleged role of Ed Clark in the JFK assassination. It should be noted, however, that until Barr McClellan wrote his book in 2003, few people outside of Texas were aware of the close connection between LBJ and Clark and of how the records of LBJ's secret financial empire were stored on a guarded floor in Clark's law firm located a block from the Texas Capitol Building. However, a reading of Draper's article above clearly reveals how close the two were and how powerful Clark was. Draper's article reinforces Barr McClellan's assessment that was based on his having worked as an attorney in Clark's Austin firm.
In 1948, Clark was appointed as Lyndon Johnson's legal counsel when Coke Stevenson contested Johnson's narrow victory in the primary. He remained active in the Democratic Party and was associated with those opposed to the liberal elements, led by Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough .
After the Pearl Harbor attack, Clark joined the US Army. During the Second World War, he served as a captain in the Quartermaster Corps. Clark then returned to Austin.
Lyndon’s brother Sam Houston Johnson worked closely with LBJ for many years. He succeeded Lyndon as an aide to Congressman Richard Kleberg, worked for the National Youth Administration, Federal Land Bank, the War Production Board, an advisor to Lyndon and at least two positions in private business. Sam Houston Johnson had earned a law degree from Cumberland School of Law but to the best of our knowledge did not practice law with a law firm. Sam was twice married. He passed away in 1978 and is buried in the Johnson Family Cemetery.

Not intended to be a complete listing all of his ancestors, the following represents a number of them and is based on information mainly from newspaper accounts and traditional genealogical sources.
Samuel Ealy Johnson, Jr. was born in Buda, Hayes County, Texas in 1877. His mother and father were Eliza Jane Bunton and Samuel Ealy Johnson, Sr. At the time of his birth, the family lived on a farm near Buda. The Ealy name, common to Samuel and his father, appears to be a variation on the last name of Samuel Ealy Johnson, senior’s grandmother, Ann Eley.
Sister Josefa Hermine Johnson married James Dee (Buster) Moss in 1954. Buster Moss had been a minister in the Church of Christ. Not much is publicly known about them, other than James’ first wife and daughter had tragically died in an auto accident in 1934. His second marriage apparently ended in divorce. He and Josefa were married about seven years before she passed away in her sleep from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1961. Josefa had previously been married twice and had a son from one of the marriages. She is buried in the Johnson Family Cemetery.

Walter Jenkins was a practicing Catholic and father of six who was, as far as everyone knew, happily married to his wife, Marjorie. But in a matter of days, he would become, as OUTmagazine put itin 1999, “the most famous homosexual in America.” LBJ would swiftly disown the aide who had been by his side for 25 years, effectively ending the political career of a man who had dedicated his life to him.

But Jenkins would find an unlikely ally in the White House: Lady Bird Johnson. It was at turns a small but very important display of public solidarity in a time when such a gesture was rare.

Johnson never replaced Jenkins, and many close to the president claimed he floundered without his counsel. “Walter’s counsel on Vietnam might have been extremely helpful,” said U.S. Attorney General, Ramsey Clark. Johnson’s press secretary, George Reedy, would later reflect, “All of history might have been different if it hadn’t been for that episode.”
