St. James was incorporated in 1999 and is located along the southeast coast of North Carolina – just a few miles from the old fishing village of Southport, NC and about 30 miles south of Wilmington, NC. St.

A frequently-heard question, especially from newer residents, is: "What are the Town's responsibilities versus those of the POA?" The confusion regarding respective responsibilities is attributable to our unique situation in St. James.
