Alvey Kulina is from the south Bronx. He said he was born to fight and has been fighting since he could walk. When he was 15, he came home early from the gym one day, and found his mother, Annette, after she failed to hang herself. When he was 17, Alvey's father used to run a dive bar, and he would fight customers who could not pay. Every Sunday, he would fight a couple grown men, one at a time, in the parking lot. He won more of those fights than he lost. When he was 19, he beat up a man in a mall so bad the latter rode in an ambulance. At some point, Alvey lived in his car for about a year in East New York, Brooklyn. The cold inspired him to move to California, where he met Christina, who was attending college in Northridge but dropped out when they had Jay in the late 1980s.
Peak Human Condition: Alvey, as a fighter, is at the peak of human physical condition. He trains hard every day. His workout routine consists of sparring, shadowboxing, running, lifting weights, hitting the heavy bag, deadlifts, using a grip strengthener, using a medicine ball, sprinting up mountains, tricep dips, push-ups, sit-ups, hitting the speed bag, using a fitness orb, jumping rope, and barbell squats. Dantzler said he has a vascular look and Jay said he is a very virile man. Keith knows him as "the fitness guy." Alvey eats clean, as he drinks a shake of blueberries, banana, almond milk, and protein powder. He also takes HGH.
Alvey is one of the top trainers in MMA. He trains professional fighters like Ryan Wheeler, who he got into the UFC before the events of the series. He also trains police officers. In 2017, he received the Southern California Mixed Martial Arts Coach of the Year award.
