After completing internships in the Southern District of New York and the Legal Aid Society, she served in the state Assembly and the New York City Council. Katz also worked in private practice with the firms of Weil Gotshal and Greenberg Traurig. Katz was elected Queens borough president in 2013 and won re-election in 2017. She said that she "has succeeded in her career because she’s always been willing to listen, to break from the practices and limitations of the past, and to work hand-in-hand with community leaders on the challenges they face and then create effective change. And that’s why her experience makes her uniquely qualified to be our next District Attorney."
