Before achieving solo success, the rapper fronted a crew called the Bloodhoundz that played a local club called Blue Horizon. January 23rd, 2007: Meek Mill is accused of selling crack. A member of Philadelphia’s Narcotics Field Unit (NFU), Reggie Graham, claims to have seen Meek sell crack to an informant.
January 24th, 2007: Meek Mill is arrested. After the NFU police obtained a warrant to search Meek’s house, the officers handcuff him outside his home; Meek has said in the past that he was on his way to a corner store.
November 6th, 2017: Meek goes to prison for probation violations. Brinkley decided to jail Meek for two to four years after he failed a drug test ( The Washington Post reports it was for Percocet) and did not comply with a court order that limited his travel, according to Billboard.

The New York Post ‘s Page Six reports that the FBI has had undercover agents in courtrooms monitoring Brinkley’s handling of Meek Mill’s case since April 2016. This followed claims from Meek’s attorney that Brinkley had shown bias by asking the rapper to leave Roc Nation and return to working with Charlie Mack.
Meek Mill was arrested for popping wheelies on his dirt bike and for getting into a fight earlier this year, and now the rapper could spend two to four years in state prison because those arrests violated his probation from a 2008 gun and drug case.
Mill’s attorney told CNN that he plans to appeal the sentence and accused Philadelphia judge Genece E. Brinkley, who has overseen Mill’s case for years, of being “enamored” with the rapper and taking “a personal interest in the case.”. “ (Meek’s) frustrated, really frustrated and knows he’s being treated different than anyone else,” Mill’s attorney ...
But in 2014 Mill violated the terms of his probation by performing outside Pennsylvania and went back to prison for five months ; he told Billboard he spent much of that time in solitary confinement. He was released in December 2014, and Brinkley reinstated his probation conditions.
Mill is signed to Jay Z’s label Roc Nation. The label urged fans of the rapper to sign the Change.org petition addressed to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf asking the state to reevaluate his sentence. In a statement provided to CNN by Roc Nation on Thursday, Jay Z slammed the sentence, calling it “unjust and heavy handed.”.
But the case has moved beyond the Pennsylvania courtroom. Many hip-hop artists including Jay Z, T.I., Rick Ross and Nipsey Hussle have rallied behind the rapper, and his sentence sparked a new debate about criminal justice reform.
Brinkley’s office did not respond to a request for comment, but referred CNN’s request to Gabriel Roberts, a spokesman for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania. He told CNN in a phone interview Thursday that “because this matter is subject to future litigation, there will be no comment at this time.”.
Jay Z also voiced his support for Mill at his 4:44 show in Dallas on Tuesday. “I gotta say something about a young man named Meek Mill,” Jay Z said. “He caught a charge, he was about 19, he’s 30 now, he’s been on probation 11 years. F—— 11 years. Now he got to do two to four years because he got arrested being on a bike popping a f—— wheelie.”.
I knew Meek was going to court Monday, but I assumed he would be okay because the situation seemed like it would, logically, pan out favorably for him. The two incidents that prompted this hearing — an assault at an airport, and a reckless driving charge for riding his dirt bike in New York City — had been dropped.
Besides being a complex human being, who feels joy, pain, and makes mistakes, Meek Mill is a cipher for the country’s criminal justice system. He’s an existential case, an Aristotelian archetype. It seemed apt that T.I.
On the one hand, he is no victim. He is a grown man capable of acting within the legal bounds of his probation, a rich guy who had the means to be more disciplined, the resources to stay on point. On the other hand it looks like he’s being made an example of.
My dislike for the “free so-and-so” movement was not a wish to have the accused’s civil liberties or presumption of innocence taken away, but for all of us in the know to show some integrity and respect toward the survivors of violence. I was confounded by the lack of accountability “free” proffered to rapists and murderers.
