Sheryl Kuhary is the Deputy City Attorney. She has served the City for over 30 years, representing the City in various aspects of municipal law with a primary focus in employment, personnel and labor law. Attorney Kuhary also assists in public records and open meetings law, contract review and drafting, risk management, prosecution, and serving as acting city attorney in the absence of the city attorney.
Attorney Kuhary earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School and her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin Madison.
Since January 2019, Kail Decker has served as the City Attorney. Prior to joining West Allis, he worked as an assistant city attorney for the City of Milwaukee from 2014 to 2019. He also worked as an assistant city attorney for the City of Green Bay from 2008 to 2014. Interestingly, Attorney Decker got his start in municipal law in West Allis when he worked as the legal intern for the West Allis City Attorney's Office from 2006 to 2008.
In his role with the city, Attorney Cerwin prosecutes municipal court violations in municipal court, licensing matters before the common council, and nuisance cases in circuit court. In addition, he handles property returns and other civil litigation. He advises the police and health department and provides legal update training to police officers. In addition, he assists in ordinance drafting and advising various committees of the common council. He also assists in municipal defense and special projects.
