As District Attorney, Ms. Sosebee utilizes all resources available including state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies and the Appalachian Judicial Circuit’s drug court, veteran’s court, and mental health court programs in order to better serve the citizens of Fannin, Gilmer, and Pickens counties.
Our goal is to make Fannin County a community where all of its citizens—the very young and the elderly—without regard to their position or status in life, are safe raising their children in their homes, at work, in public, at their places of worship or anywhere in our county. Every day our office strives to fulfill this goal in an ethical manner.
The duties of your criminal district attorney as prescribed by law are to represent the State in all criminal actions in Fannin County. It is the primary duty of all prosecuting attorneys not to convict but to see that justice is done.
Office of Attorney General of Georgia Chris Carr.
Each District Attorney is an elected constitutional officer, who is part of the judicial branch of Georgia state government. The District Attorney represents the State of Georgia in the trial and appeal of felony criminal cases in the Superior Court for the judicial circuit and delinquency cases in the juvenile courts.

Each of the state's 49 District Attorney's offices has a full-time staff of assistant district attorneys, investigators, victim assistance and administrative personnel who assist the District Attorney in carrying out the duties of the office.
In practice, district attorneys, who prosecute the bulk of criminal cases in the United States, answer to no one. The state attorney general is the highest law enforcement officer in state government and often has the power to review complaints about unethical and illegal conduct on the part of district attorneys.
The recent arrest of Mark Thomason, the publisher of this paper, and his attorney, Russell Stookey, on charges of identity theft and making a false statement made me curious about the proper role of a prosecutor in the criminal justice system.
