John was born in Staten Island, New York, and moved to Southern California with his parents when he was very young. After his parents’ divorce some years later, John, his brother, sister, stepsister, mother, and stepfather all moved to Oxnard. John was not raised in a family that had a lot of money.

Path to Law

John attended California State University, Northridge, paying his own way through college and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Film Production in December 1991. The only thing John knew about film production was that he did not want to do it.

Eight months after graduating law school, John began working in the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office in January 2005. John started his career in the Misdemeanor Unit and quickly worked his way into other units in the office.
