In a 2019 New York Times profile ahead of the president's trial, Berke was described as "one of the nation's leading defense lawyers.". He was named a finalist for Attorney of the Year 2020 by the New York Law Journal, which called him the "breakout star of President Donald Trump's impeachment proceedings.".
Trump was impeached by the House on Wednesday for allegedly inciting the Capitol insurrection. At least five deaths occurred as a result of the riot, in which angry Trump supporters, fueled by conspiracy theories and false claims that the president's loss to Biden was due to a "stolen" election, violently stormed the Capitol building.

Another household name in the US, Starr was the aggressive independent counsel who spearheaded the investigation that culminated in the impeachment of President Bill Clinton two decades ago. The Starr report, and the 11 charges against Clinton that went with it, propelled him into international notoriety as the Republican scourge out to get a popular Democratic leader. He has refused to apologize to Monica Lewinsky, the White House intern who became the focus of the investigation as he tried to extract evidence about her tryst with Clinton.
Jay Sekulow. Already known as one of the president’s personal lawyers , Sekulow defended Trump throughout the Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. He’s a popular name among conservative media circles as a radio and TV show host.
The Floridian is a former federal attorney, focused on organized crime and racketeering. Raskin worked with Sekulow and Rudy Giuliani defending Trump in the Mueller investigation. She served as first assistant to the US attorney for the district of Massachusetts before joining the justice department’s criminal division as an assistant attorney.
He pointed out that the three presidential impeachment trials to date lasted a respective 83 days, 37 days and 21 days — the latter being Trump’s first trial.
The Senate’s impeachment rules require a trial to supersede any other pending business in the chamber. Delaying the start of the trial or allowing legislative business to be conducted while the trial is ongoing requires unanimous consent.
Trump’s first trial took 21 days , with no witnesses called. Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, the lead impeachment manager, said Thursday he doesn’t know how long the trial will take. “But I don’t think it will take as long as the last one,” he said.
