At the age of 12, Martin moved with her parents and siblings to Winston-Salem from Lexington.
Martin initially went to N.C. A&T State University to become a math teacher, but after she graduated and started teaching she decided that teaching wasn’t for her and ultimately went to law school.
Most recently, Martin was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the highest civilian honors given in North Carolina.
Martin said she was fortunate that she was able to work with her father and gain knowledge and experience.
Forsyth County Manager Dudley Watts said that Martin “leaves a strong legacy of integrity and excellence in the office of the Forsyth County Attorney.”
At the top of Martin’s list of things she wants to do in retirement is spending more time with her grandchildren and her mother, Mollie Wagner.
