Eric Holder is an American lawyer who served as the 82nd attorney general of the United States (2009–2015). He thus became the first African–American to hold the post and the third-longest-serving attorney general in the U.S. Holder's 6-year tenure witnessed him presiding over several civil and criminal cases.
Eric served as Attorney General from February 2009 to April 2015. As the third longest serving Attorney General in U.S. history and the first African American to hold that office, Eric is an internationally recognized leader across a broad range of regulatory enforcement, criminal justice, and national security issues.
Holder was succeeded as Attorney General by Loretta Lynch in April 2015. He returned to Covington & Burling, where he continues to practice corporate litigation, and is also involved with efforts at gerrymandering reform through the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
