As Edgeworth, hear all of his and Larry's childhood tales. (T&T, Ep. 5)
The game was revealed on January 23, 2014, and released on April 17 of the same year in Japan. The game was later announced for a Western release in the winter period as part of Capcom's reveals for E3 2014, and, like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, is only available via digital distribution on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. In all regions, the game features the option to switch from Japanese to English.
While this is not the first time an Ace Attorney game has been officially released on a system that is not from Nintendo, this is the first time it has been released on a non-Nintendo home console system, as well as the first time a non-Japanese version has been released on PC. This release later added localizations in French, German, Korean, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, making it the first time since the Nintendo DS releases that these games are made available in other languages besides English and Japanese.
Initially released on the Nintendo 3DS, it is a graphical upgrade to the Nintendo DS and WiiWare versions of the trilogy, much like the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy HD compilation for mobile devices. The compilation also makes slight adjustments to localized scripts, including typo fixes.
Prepare for your epic courtroom showdowns by investigating crime scenes, collecting evidence, and questioning witnesses.
Defend the innocent and save the day! Experience the original trilogy in clear, retina-quality HD graphics, and choose to play horizontally for larger backgrounds or vertically for one-handed ease!
The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures serves as the first entry to The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. There are five episodes as well as downloadable content.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles serves as a du ology collection for both The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve.
The first in the series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney introduces players to defense attorney Phoenix Wright. Newly hired at the Fey & Co. law firm, Wright’s first case involves him defending a childhood friend against murder charges.
Ace Attorney is a popular visual novel adventure game franchise that places players in control of a defense attorney.
There are 12 chapters, and the game divides rather fairly with having Professor Layton and assistants explore the witch trials and Phoenix Wright and assistants undergo investigation styles usually found in the Professor Layton game.
The sixth entry in the franchise is officially known as Gyakuten Kenji 2, but unofficially referred to by Ace Attorney Investigations 2.
There are still the same gameplay mechanics, but the characters also have special abilities to use such as Wright’s “psyche-lock” skill
For the purposes of this article, I have looked over each major Ace Attorney game and spinoff. Every game has its own details on when events take place, allowing them to be described on a case-by-case basis. If simply going through the games according to when they (mostly) take place, this would be the best order to go about it.
Trying to follow the games as they happen can be a little more than challenging, as you can see. Part of why the series is structured like this is to fill in some gaps, set up interesting plot threads, and provide simple tutorials that still allow fan-favorite characters to show up.
As the title suggests, investigation-type gameplay was first introduced in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and marked a huge, polarizing change from the first four games.
In the scheme of crossover games, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright was decidedly mediocre, especially for two franchises that had been around long enough to build up two solid fan bases. Expectations were never really met from either side when it came to playing as Professor Layton or Phoenix Wright.
The most recent game in the main series, Spirit of Justice, has the spirit of the four previous games, but it didn’t quite live up to fans’ expectations.
Being the first Ace Attorney game where you play as a character other than Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney worked surprisingly well. Apollo Justice, the apprentice of sorts to Phoenix Wright, is actually a loveable and fun protagonist for the game. Plus, he had the ability to “perceive” at a deeper level than his predecessor.
This Switch bundle gave us two brilliant Ace Attorney spin-offs that were previously not released in English: The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve.
As a sequel to the first game in the franchise, Justice for All is a worthy follow-up, but at the same time it simply continued the series rather than doing anything groundbreaking or pushing the envelope.
At the time of its release, Dual Destinies was a near masterpiece on the Nintendo 3DS. It used the 3D features flawlessly and incorporated fully-animated cutscenes, which really helped bring the courtroom and crime scenes to life.
It was also released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 21, 2019 in Japan, and on April 9, 2019 internationally; a Windows version was released internationally on the same date. On August 24, 2019, the option to play the game in French, German, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese was added. The update also added additional save files. The French-language version of the game accidentally forgot to remove a mention of the WiiWare controls that were in the Wii port of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials ...
