Aug 14, 2018 · Wardlow was an attorney from Eagan and former state Representative (HD 38B, 2011-2013). Anderson was a resident of St. Paul. This was her 10th failed attempt to become the state attorney general, also losing the Independent-Republican primaries of 1982, 1986, and 1990, the 1994 general election, and the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 Republican primaries.
The 2022 Minnesota Attorney General election will be held on November 8, 2022, to elect the attorney general of the U.S. state of Minnesota. Incumbent Keith Ellison will be eligible to run for reelction.
Background. In 2018, Keith Ellison was elected to replace retiring fellow DFLer Lori Swanson . As Attorney General, Ellison played a key role in the state's prosecution of Derek Chauvin and pushed for policing reforms in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd.

In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton (D) won Minnesota with 46.4 percent of the vote. Donald Trump (R) received 44.9 percent. In presidential elections between 1860 and 2016, Minnesota voted Republican 50 percent of the time and Democratic 47.5 percent of the time.
Nineteen of 87 Minnesota counties—21.8 percent—are Pivot Counties. Pivot Counties are counties that voted for Barack Obama (D) in 2008 and 2012 and for Donald Trump (R) in 2016. Altogether, the nation had 206 Pivot Counties, with most being concentrated in upper midwestern and northeastern states.

DFL incumbent Lori Swanson was first elected attorney general in 2006. Swanson succeeded two-term DFL incumbent Mike Hatch, who opted to run for governor in 2006. Swanson was re-elected in 2010 and 2014. On January 28, 2018, Swanson announced that she would seek re-election.
Mike Rothman, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce from 2011 to 2017. Initially withdrew on February 16, 2018, following Swanson's announcement that she would seek re-election. Re-entered the race following Swanson's withdrawal.
