Be Clear: Be direct and get straight to the point. Clearly state that you are terminating the attorney and briefly state the reasons why. Additionally, the termination letter should state that the attorney should immediately stop working on any pending matters.

Nevertheless, under Rule 1.16 (c), notwithstanding good cause for terminating the representation a lawyer must continue representation of a client when ordered to do so by a tribunal. [1] A lawyer should not accept representation in a matter unless it can be performed competently, promptly, without improper conflict of interest and to completion. Ordinarily, a representation in a matter is completed when the agreed-upon assistance has been concluded. See Rules 1.2 (c) and 6.5.
The lawyer may retain papers as security for a fee only to the extent permitted by law. See Rule 1.15.

In order to resolve these disputes quickly and without the need for court intervention, it is best to have a written contract in place that can clear up these issues. It is highly effective to be able point to a specific part of a written contract in order to prove your point.
Client files. The contract should specify how and at what cost the client can obtain a complete copy of their client file held by the attorney. The contract should specify who will do the work, meaning who will do the research for the case, and who will argue it in court if litigation is necessary.
Rates typically vary from as little as $75 per hour to more than $500 per hour.
It should be no shock that litigation can be quite expensive, even excluding the costs that an attorney charges. These fees must come from somewhere, and your representation agreement should specify from where. If you are expected to pay for all filing fees, then that should be in the contract you have with your lawyer.
