Andrew Mark Cuomo ( / ˈkwoʊmoʊ /; Italian: [ˈkwɔːmo]; born December 6, 1957) is an American lawyer, author, and politician serving as the 56th governor of New York since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected to the same position his father, Mario Cuomo, held for three terms.
In August 2017, the Cuomo administration awarded more than $7 million, financed with money from large bank settlements, in grants to New York colleges to offer courses to New York prisoners. In January 2018, Cuomo proposed reforms that would "reduce delays during trials, ban asset seizures in cases where there has been no conviction and make it easier for former convicts to get a job after leaving prison." He also called for an end to cash bail for minor crimes.
On November 4, 2014, Cuomo was reelected for a second term with 54% of the vote, while Astorino received 40.6% of the vote. Despite low voter turnout, Cuomo won the general election by a comfortable margin; however, his margin of victory was smaller than it had been in his 2010 victory.
He said that he would consider restoring the voting rights of all parolees (more than 35,000), and would also enfranchise new parolees throughout his term.

Lawyers representing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday unleashed a litany of attacks on the “fairness” of the bombshell sexual harassment investigation released earlier this week by the state attorney general’s office, decrying it as an “ambush” against the Democractic governor “conducted in a manner to support a premeditated narrative.”
In what is the most in-depth response from Cuomo’s team yet, three lawyers for the governor—Paul Fishman, Mitra Hormozi and Rita Glavin—disparaged the report and its most severe allegations at a Friday afternoon press conference.
During a brief Q&A portion of the press conference, the lawyers were asked about the allegation seen for the first time in the AG report that Cuomo sexually harassed a female state trooper. “The governor will address that allegation himself,” Glavin said, though she did not outline a particular time frame.
While Cuomo has continued to deny the allegations, the state attorney general’s investigation, whose findings were summarized in a 165-page report, backed up claims of sexual harassment from 11 different women, including current and former employees.
The release of this report has unleashed a wave of calls for Cuomo’s resignation and has expedited a state-level investigation into whether the governor should be impeached.
The investigation's findings, detailed in a 165-page public report, turn up the pressure on the 63-year-old governor, who just a year ago was widely hailed for his steady leadership during the darkest days of the COVID-19 crisis, even writing a book about it.
Another, Lindsey Boylan, said Cuomo kissed her on the lips after a meeting in his office and "would go out of his way to touch me on my lower back, arms and legs."
