Yost began his career as a journalist with the Columbus Citizen-Journal. He went on to serve in senior positions with the administrations of Columbus Mayor Buck Rinehart and Ohio Governor George Voinovich.
Yost was elected attorney general of Ohio on November 6, 2018. He assumed the office on January 14, 2019.
Yost did not formally endorse a candidate in the 2020 presidential election.

Cranley is taking his first shot at statewide office after serving as Cincinnati mayor and on city council. He has run unsuccessfully for Congress, challenging Republican incumbent Steve Chabot.
The most likely addition to the gubernatorial field is U.S. Rep. Warren Davidson, a Southwest Ohio congressman who has expressed interest in challenging DeWine.
He is now running for attorney general, also with a firm endorsement from Trump. “Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin, who is running for Attorney General, is a highly respected Army Veteran who will always fight for the great people of Arkansas,” Trump said in a statement.
Letlow is now running to regain her husband’s seat in 2022. “Julia Letlow, a wonderful and talented person who is the widow of U.S. Representative-elect Luke Letlow, is running for Congress in Louisiana-5 at the urging of so many people who know her so very well,” Trump wrote.

Gonzalez was one of 10 Republicans in the House to vote in favor of Trump’s impeachment, which charged him with inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Several Republican Senators also broke with Trump and voted to convict him on the impeachment charge, but Trump has not announced endorsements for any challengers.
Yost graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. He earned a Juris Doctor from the Capital University Law School.

In 2003, he became the Delaware County Prosecutor.
Yost and his wife Darlene live in Franklin County, Ohio. They have three children and three grandchildren.
Yost was elected Ohio's 32nd state auditor in November 2010. In January 2017 he announced he was running for Ohio Attorney General in 2018.
