Working the covid disaster as a 'Loan Officer". Initial orientation was thin and confusing subsequent trainings for new tasks have been a bit better. There's a lot of having to figure out things on my own no certainty whether I'm doing ok. My team lead is grumpy and everything seems to bother him, especially borrowers with concerns.
SBA is filled with hard working individuals focused on the mission to provide swift consumer and commercial lending services to those who have lost their businesses and homes as a result of a natural disaster. It is challenging, super fast-paced work which is rewarding and effective.
You will work a lot of hours while employed with the SBA. There is absolutely no work-life balance with this job. The overtime truly does add a lot to the compensation, but if you don't pace yourself you will burn out fairly quick.
Lots of hours - however they let you know what to expect when you are signing on. Don't expect frequent holidays off or vacation days. Don't expect anything except guaranteed hours and you'll be fine.
A dynamic place to work with excellent people while performing important work vital to the communities served. Supervisors are highly skilled individuals eager to impart information and processes to their colleagues. A thoroughly stimulating place to work on a variety of tasks and challenges.
Overall, I had a great experience there. It is not for everyone - it's fast paced and very competitive. But overall a great place to be if you enjoy putting in a lot of hours in the name of helping people who are trying to rebuild their lives.
The jobs are all temporary. There's no job security. You improve your chances of being retained by being quick to pick up new things and being a pleasant person to work with, but even then, you have no guarantee.
This was a temporary job working with people who had suffered losses due to a disaster. It was very satisfying because it allowed me to help these persons thru a very hard time in their life.
High volume and fast paced every day. The most difficult part of the job was reliance upon others to complete a portion of the process in a timely fashion.
