The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the Trump administration sought to block Yates from testifying before the intelligence panel, which was also set to hear from former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan.
Rep. Adam Schiff , the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, says a hearing set for Tuesday with former acting Attorney General Sally Yates — which was canceled by Republicans — would have featured explosive testimony on Michael Flynn’s efforts to "cover up" his conversations with Russia’s ambassador.
In a March 23 letter to Acting Assistant Attorney General Samuel Ramer, O’Neil wrote that Yates would not discuss classified information but that the guidance they received went further and was “overbroad, incorrect, and inconsistent with the department’s historical approach to the congressional testimony of current and former officials.”
Yates, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper — all former Obama-administration appointees — were set to appear for public hearings on Tuesday on Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Special counsel Mueller did NOT find any evidence Trump's campaign conspired with Moscow to influence the presidential election during his lengthy probe.
This would back-up the conclusion of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller who also found no clues of illegal or criminal coordination during the presidential campaign.
Transcripts of top level interviews apparently show senior law enforcement and intelligence officials affirming they had no evidence of complicity during the 2016 election campaign.
