Elvis Presley, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, died on Aug. 16, 1977. Presley was one of the most successful entertainers in Las Vegas. Clark County reports he sold out 837 consecutive shows over a seven-year period, between 1969 and 1976, in Sin City.
He saw that attorneys, like his father, fight for the righteousness of clients and serve as the defenders and protectors of the constitution.
Goodman said that he would not greet the president at the airport next time he was in Vegas unless an apology was made. The president’s staff reassured him that the president would put in a good word for Vegas next time he was in town. In good faith, Goodman greeted Obama on his next visit, but only a weak reference was made encouraging visitors to Vegas. Later on, Obama again discouraged visitors from visiting Vegas. The next time Obama was in town, Goodman did not greet him at the airport. In fact, Goodman went on say Obama was no longer welcome in Las Vegas. It takes a tough man to stand behind what he believes in, especially in opposition to the president.
Goodman represented Rosenthal for years. "He was a jack of all trades and a master of some. If he was walking in the casino and saw a cigarette butt on the floor, he'd pick it up himself and put it in the ashtray -- and then fire the person whose job it was to pick it up in the first place.".
Goodman also represented the head of the Philadelphia mob, "Little Nicky" Scarfo ("You weren't allowed to call him Little Nicky") and his nephew, "Crazy" Phil Leonetti ("You weren't allowed to call him Crazy Phil") in a murder trial, in which the they tried to kill the victim 13 times.
Tony "The Ant" Spilotro also served as inspiration for Casino -- in a role played by Joe Pesci. He was accused of murdering 26 people by Las Vegas law enforcement. "And yet -- they never convicted him of anything," says Goodman.
Oscar Goodman has no problem with the tag "mob lawyer" when running down his resume. "I wear it with a badge of honor" he says. "These fellows I represented could afford any lawyer in the country -- and they chose me. So I'm certainly not apologetic."
