California authorized officials
If you are unable to attend a group swearing-in ceremony, you may request an authorized official to swear you in. Below are the officials in California authorized to administer the oath. During the COVID-19 pandemic, if you are requesting that an official administer the oath virtually, you must confirm that they are authorized to do so.
Outside California
If you currently live outside of California, it is not necessary for you to return to take the attorney’s oath.
Citizenship timeline after becoming a lawful permanent resident (LPR)
As we recently discussed, there are a few pathways to obtaining lawful residence status in the U.S. The different pathways carry different requirements, different types of sponsors filling out different forms on your behalf, and different time frames.
Processing times
Once you have satisfied all of the residency and presence requirements, and assuming you have not otherwise violated any of the conditions necessary for applying for citizenship, you will then have to apply for naturalization. Even when all of your ducks are in a row, you are still subject to government processing times.

In order to be admitted in New York, you have to have completed 50 hours of pro-bono work. (Check with your law school on ways to get it done.)
