They reassured both my Dad and my Mom that they could change their minds at any time. My Dad was pretty upset and frustrated.

My mother did not want to be anywhere but home. My doctor helped guide me to hospice. Hospice provided palliative care that was markedly better than hospital care.

About 15 years ago my retired mother felt a pain her hip. It was misdiagnosed. After a second opinion, she was diagnosed with bone cancer that had already spread to many of her bones. She immediately started chemo to keep it away from the soft tissue and organs, and we had hope. Lots of hope actually. My mother fought it hard.
My mom was in hospice for 6 months. She suffered from Parkinson’s and quality of life was poor (unable to walk, severely disabled with contractures all over her body and on a feeding tube due to aspiration pneumonia). In the recent months prior to her death I turned away visits from the social worker and chaplain since I was already overwhelmed.
