Then Microsoft announced it would ultimately stop updating and supporting the “old” desktop version, instead focusing future development on its universal OneNote. This new OneNote is now called, simply… OneNote, and the older, soon-to-be-sunsetted version is called OneNote 16. (Yes, its unnecessarily confusing. Microsoft is no stranger to fluid and befuddling naming conventions.)
OneNote allows you to add tags to any line of text in a note or a page. A Tag is an icon that holds a specific significance, topic or callout.
Later, Microsoft released a leaner version of OneNote (then called OneNote Universal), which was optimized for mobile devices (most notably tablets) and designed to look and work the same on any device.
You create notes: a page where you enter information you like, free-form. You do this by simply typing or copy/pasting, like you would a Word document, or by hand-writing with your favorite laptop, tablet and stylus.
And don’t forget that notes in OneNote can be multimedia: text, images, links and more. Which means you can not only search for and find the note you’re looking for, but the image, website or embedded file you stored with it.
Evernote is an excellent tool for quickly taking and saving meeting notes. Start a note with a click of a button from your computer or mobile device. Evernote automatically saves the note and syncs it to all your devices when you are connected to the internet.
Often, we stumble across interesting and important information on the internet that we might like to reference later, send to a client or pass on to a colleague. Evernote is an ideal place to store those articles and webpages. Evernote owes its popularity in part to its web clipper tool.
Many attorneys who use Evernote use the web clipper to save and organize their legal research. You can organize your research into topical notebooks, such as Employment Discrimination, Landlord-Tenant, Search and Seizure and so on.
What do you do with all those business cards you brought home from last night’s networking event? Do you leave them scattered on your desk (so they’ll inevitably end up in the trash) or put them in a box (and never reference them again)? Instead, upload them immediately to Evernote using its business card tool.
Oftentimes, we receive emails with important information we need to reference at a later date. You can save those emails easily into Evernote.

Effective note-taking has elements of creativity to it, in how you capture the content of what you hear. You may want lined paper, plain paper, or paper organized for a certain note-taking strategy. Someone told me a story about their brilliant law-school classmate who took all her notes on mathematical graphing paper. The point is to prepare in advance with helpful equipment such as paper and pens that will help:

Effective note-taking does not end the moment class ends. Putting those notes in a box until it’s time to study for finals is not the best advice. Rather, the advice is to use those notes sooner rather than later to review and consolidate growing knowledge:

I took computer notes in two classes for several reasons: Because the professor went too fast for me to be able to handwrite and because I filled in an outline that the professor emailed us to use before each class.
Basically, an outline is an overview of the whole semester’s material pared down to the most important information. This will be what you study/memorize for exams. Because it is so important, I am going to devote a whole post to it later.
Law school has certainly changed my notetaking skills beyond just handwritten v. computer. I have learned to case brief, IRAC, incorporate reading and class notes, outline and book brief.
I've been using One Note for a few months now for university, on my Windows 10PC, however recently I got an iPad and I'm having issues with sync, namely, getting the Error code E000006B blg57, and saying that my notes are saved offline because OneNote cannot connect to the network.

I'm trying to copy certain PPT slides (not the whole presentation) into One Note, but they won't paste. Is there something I'm missing or does this just not work? I know I can do file printout, but I can't figure out how to insert just certain slides without saving those as a separate file first.
Title says it all, it turns black for a fraction of a second when I write but then goes back to normal. It doesn't effect anything. Just gets a little annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

You can take your notes in the margin or directly on top of the document. So, no more large stacks of documents with yellow post-its sticking out to the side.
One you install OneNote, you’ll get a menu option when you right click on things to send them to OneNote. Outlook has a built-in button at the top to send an email to OneNote. When you click that, you have the option to choose where you want to send it:

Meeting Notes. Not only can you take notes, but you can annotate and tag your notes. For example, here, I’ve taken some notes and an item for me has a tight deadline, so I click and drag over the note and right click and I get an option to add that note to my Outlook task list with a pop up reminder.
You can do the same thing with witness examination outlines in trial. I can drag specific pages from a deposition or from an exhibit into my outline to have impeachment evidence ready without having a huge stack of papers that I need to shuffle through to make my point. It helps with flow and timing if you don’t have to adjust your pace to find that one page that proves the witness is lying.
If you insert it as a printout, as I did in the screenshot above, you can use the pen tools to draw all over your document. It also creates a link for me to open the original source document to see a clean copy: You can take your notes in the margin or directly on top of the document.
Write the date on the outside of the notebook. If you start using notebooks a lot, you’ll find it very handy to be able to sort notebooks by time.
You want the notebook to be empty or nearly empty when you run out of blank paper. It’s very satisfying to yank a page out of the notebook when you’re done with a task. You want the page to pull away cleanly, so look for a notebook that is perfect bound.
Crumple it up and throw it away. Maybe you’re back from the grocery store and everything is crossed off your grocery list page. Try to finish out the notebook with almost all your pages ripped out.
The observation here is pretty simple: the notepad is not your entire filing system. That notebook is just your short-term working memory. Ideally anything that you jot down in the notebook (e.g. movies to see) can eventually go onto a longer-term list, such as your Netflix queue for movies.
