He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England after taking a very brief drama class in Frankfurt, Germany. He served in the Israeli Navy from 1989 to 1992 and used to work for security for the Israeli airline El Al in Germany.

He also sent Frank to kill Lila after she threatened to expose their affair and her pregnancy to Sam's wife. During the first season, flashforwards scenes show that a fight led to Sam being killed and buried by Annalise's students. In season six, Sam is revealed to be the father of Frank through an incestuous relationship with his sister Hannah while Annalise is on trial for conspiracy to commit murder in his death. She is eventually exonerated.
