The primary duty of the Attorney General is to serve as legal counsel to Alabama's state agencies, departments, and officers. Our office is prohibited by law from providing private citizens with legal advice, representation, or opinions (Code of Alabama, 1975, Title 36, Chapter 15).
To file a complaint, visit your state's Attorney General's website, locate the online complaint form, fill it out and attach the necessary documents, and then mail it to the Attorney General's office address. Each state designates an agency to handle consumer complaints of fraud, deception, or unfair business practices. Typically, the state’s attorney general investigates those complaints. If you have been the victim of fraud or deception, you should file a complaint with the attorney general. A complaint is a formal written document filed by a party seeking legal relief by outlining the allegations, details, remedies, and parties involved. The process for filing includes gathering paperwork, contacting various involved parties, and taking legal action.
Generally, a representative will contact you within two weeks via correspondence or phone to confirm your complaint. If you haven’t heard from the company after two weeks , then contact the attorney general.

Attach necessary documentation. The Attorney General will want to see any and all contracts, correspondence, receipts, cancelled checks, and advertisements. Do not send originals.
Incomplete or omitted information will delay or halt the process.
Explain what was wrong with the product or service. As best you can, explain why you think you have been deceived or defrauded.
Contact the business or individual to resolve the issue. Many states require or strongly recommend that you contact the business before filing a complaint. Tennessee, for example, requires that you contact the business first. On the other hand, Delaware makes no mention of contacting the business first.
As required by Alabama Code § 13A-9-71 (i), all professional fundraisers and commercial co-venturers must, within 90 days of the termination of the contract, file a closing statement with the Attorney General disclosing gross receipts and all expenditures incurred in the performance of the contract.

The Alabama Telemarketing Act, beginning at Section 8-19A-1 of the Code of Alabama, requires any organization, institution, or person who engages in commercial telephone solicitation to be licensed by the Attorney General's Office. Both the failure to register and the falsification of information on an application are punishable as a class C felony.
The organization must also notify the Attorney General within 10 days of any change in the information required for registration. The Alabama law governing charity registration is found in Section13A-9-70 through 13A-9-84 of the Code of Alabama.
As required by Alabama Amendment 621, all fantasy sports operators must, within 60 days application availability, register with the Attorney General’s office. Registration Form.
Alabama law requires professional fundraisers, professional solicitors, and commercial co-venturers to register with the Attorney General's Office. Ala Code § 13A-9-70 (1996) . Professional Fund Raisers plan, conduct, manage, or carry-on a drive or campaign for the purposes of soliciting charitable contributions in this state.
A fee of $25 is required for initial registration and for subsequent annual filings.
