Newly admitted Illinois attorneys are required to complete 15 Illinois-approved CLE credits. At least 6 of these must be fulfilled by a Basic Skills Course approved by the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism (ILSCCP), such as PLI's Illinois Basic Skills course.
Illinois Newly-Admitted CLE Rules Illinois newly admitted attorneys must complete a 6-hour Basic Skills course that has been approved by the MCLE Board to meet the Basic Skills requirement, as well as 9 additional hours of approved CLE credits of their choosing. Under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 796 (a), Illinois-licensed attorneys are responsible for submitting an MCLE certification ("Initial MCLE Notice") within 31 days after the end of their reporting period. Attorneys can log in to their MCLE account to submit the certification.

The MCLE requirements for the 2020-2022 reporting period are 30 hours of approved Illinois MCLE credit, including at least six professional responsibility (PR) hours. At least one hour in diversity and inclusion CLE and one hour in mental health and substance abuse CLE must be included within those six hours.

Consequences of non-compliance are: Payment of non-compliance fee; Also, listing a delinquent member of the IBP upon the recommendation of the MCLE Committee; and. Lastly, membership fees shall continue to accrue at the active rate against the member.
Rule 2.90 defines “noncompliance” as the failure to: (A) complete the required education during the compliance period; (B) report compliance or claim exemption from the requirements; (C) keep a record of MCLE compliance; or (D) pay fees for noncompliance.

Credits must be reported by July 31 of the reporting year. A maximum of 10 credits, including professional responsibility, may be carried over to the next reporting period. Attorneys can verify their requirements with the Illinois MCLE Board.
Starting with attorneys whose two-year reporting period ends on June 30, 2019, Illinois attorneys are required to complete one credit of diversity and inclusion and one credit of mental health and substance abuse, as part of their professional responsibility requirement.

With that report, the attorney obtains a new deadline of September 30, 2020, to complete the required credits and report compliance online to the Board. No fee is due this year for securing this new deadline.
No other report is needed, and no fee is due. Option 2: Selecting the September 30, 2020 deadline - To choose this option, the attorney reports "Not Yet Complied" on the Board's website, no later than July 31, 2020.
