Scouting talent

After you’ve determined in what capacity you want to bring on a PT, it’s time to begin your search for one. Dekanich places advertisements on the American Academy of Physical Therapy website, as this strategy works well for him. He’s found many recent physical therapy graduates look for jobs there.

Great expectations

By bringing on a new healthcare provider, you should expect some changes—for the better. “Hands down, the first change a practice should expect is better patient outcomes,” Dekanich says.

Accommodating a PT

Whether or not you need more space for a PT largely depends on the PT’s practice style and patient demographics.

Expanding your patient demographic

By having a PT join your practice, you may be able to see patients who normally wouldn’t come to your door. “Because we are an extremity specialist group and sports medicine specialists, our demographic didn’t change that much (when adding a PT),” Dekanich says.

What could possibly go wrong?

Although adding a PT can be advantageous in many ways, there could be some potential downsides, such as personality conflicts among healthcare providers. “The relationship between the chiropractor and PT should not be adversarial, territorial, or competitive,” Fonda says.

Making it work

Regardless of the capacity in which you maintain a PT, your practice needs a team-oriented approach rather than having the PT feel as if he or she works for the chiropractor. Typically, PTs join an orthopedic group or large hospital group after graduation.

This is horrible behavior on the part of your lawyer. It is also why I do not favor the use of chiropractors in injury cases as they often run up large bills. I agree with the lawyer who suggested that you negotiate with the chiropractor to reduce the bill as your lawyer dropped your case.

Julie S Luhrsen

You might also try to negotiate the bills down by arguing over how helpful chiropractic really is as a treatment for dog bites to the legs.#N#More

Technically, you are responsible for the bills. But I think under the circumstances, the lawyer should at least call the chiropractor to see if he can bill health insurance, give you a discount, or waive the bill. Otherwise, you can negotiate the bill on your own to what is reasonable if you feel the bill is inflated (probably).

Steven Mark Sweat

Unfortunately, the answer is probably yes. If you have health insurance, you can submit it through your insurance carrier but, if you signed a "lien and agreement to pay", you are probably on the hook. Another option would be to retain another attorney to pursue the personal injury case...

Can you sue a chiropractor for a personal injury?

Expenses for chiropractic treatment are recoverable in a personal injury lawsuit as long as you can prove that they are reasonably necessary and appropriate for your particular injury. This has the potential to become problematic if there are members of the jury who are biased against chiropractors.

Can chiropractic care be covered by insurance?

Whether you are covered by an automobile insurance policy or a general health insurance policy, your claims for chiropractic care may be limited by policy provisions that limit the number of approved visits. If this is the case, you will be liable for all charges related to visits that exceed the limit stated in the policy.
