He believes in her just because she's Maya, not because her case is easy, not because she asked him to, but because he wants to. This is the depth of their bond at this point. Phoenix unconditionally believes in Maya's innocence; that's something that he sticks to for the rest of the series.

Phoenix was originally in art college studying an unspecified course before deciding to take up a career in Law. After the events in Turnabout Beginnings, Phoenix, after being proven innocent of accused murder, makes good on his decision to switch to law and studies under Mia Fey for three years before finally making his debut as a rookie defense attorney. He has always said his reasons for wanting to get into to law were to help defend those who couldn't defend themselves, as well as to help his friend, Edgeworth .
After completing his training under Mia Fey, Phoenix joins the Fey & Co. Law Offices as a defense attorney. However, shortly after his first case, Mia is murdered, after which Phoenix takes over the offices. For the next three years the offices were known as the Wright & Co. Law Offices where he worked out of, with Maya often helping as his assistant. Phoenix finally got his chance to "save" Edgeworth, finally meeting him in the courtroom. He managed to break Edgeworth's perfect record and successfully defend him in the murder of Hammond. After this, Edgeworth and Phoenix's friendship was renewed and the two of them come to each others aid many times after this.
Phoenix works at a Russian restaurant called the Borscht Bowl Club where he plays piano. However, he isn't very good at playing and doesn't take requests.
Friends & Family. Edgeworth and Larry are Phoenix's two oldest friends who he grew up with at school. The three of them became good friends after Edgeworth defended Phoenix in a mock trial in their school classroom after Wright was accused of stealing Edgeworth's pocket money.
Phoenix originally studied art at Ivy University and, in his 3rd year, he began to date Dahlia Hawthorne whom he met at the courthouse library. Whilst studying art, Phoenix was also considering to be a lawyer at this point, and had begun studying it on the side.
The judge appears in the fighting game Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as one of Phoenix Wright's Level 1 Hyper Combos during "Courtroom Mode", Nightmare Judge, in which a shadowy giant version of himself (similar to his appearance in Wright's nightmare in The Lost Turnabout) appears while saying, "Order in the court!" He then smashes his gavel down on Wright and his opponent while saying, "Objection overruled!" While both battling characters are knocked down by this, only Wright's opponent takes damage, although Wright is knocked out of "Courtroom Mode" back to "Investigative Mode".
As a child, the judge presumably received the same message on his school report card every year: "Has poor hearing, and often makes mistakes as a result", as evident by his reaction to Mia Fey guessing the message.
During Bridge to the Turnabout, Godot says to the judge, " Mr. Trite 's words are the milk and you are the spoon, Your Honor." The judge, misunderstanding Godot's unusual metaphor, protests, "I-I'm a spoon!? I'm no spoony bard, I'll have you know!" "Spoony bard" is a reference to the notorious line from the English localizations of Final Fantasy IV, in which Tellah refers to Edward Chris von Muir as a "spoony bard".

Phoenix Wright has generally been praised by critics for being a likeable character with a realistic profession. However, the older Phoenix Wright seen in Apollo Justice has been criticized as "aloof and inscrutable", with "his character's development...lost along the wayside." GameDailycalled him the eighth greatest Capcom character, citing how he perseveres in the face of hardships. They also named him 20th on their "Top 25 Gaming Hunks."
