Wright's Japanese given name, Ryūichi, alludes to the mythical dragon with its use of ryu (竜). His Japanese surname, Naruhodō, references the Japanese expression naruhodo (なるほど), which equates to the English "I see". This phrase is often used in Japan to express attentiveness to the subject at hand.
While Edgeworth does not appear in person in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, in later games he is mentioned as still being in contact with Wright after he lost his attorney's badge, as well as seeing his daughter Trucy's magic shows from time to time.

After the events in Turnabout Beginnings, Phoenix, after being proven innocent of accused murder, makes good on his decision to switch to law and studies under Mia Fey for three years before finally making his debut as a rookie defense attorney. He has always said his reasons for wanting to get into to law were to help defend those who couldn't defend themselves, as well as to help his friend, Edgeworth .
Edgeworth and Larry are Phoenix's two oldest friends who he grew up with at school. The three of them became good friends after Edgeworth defended Phoenix in a mock trial in their school classroom after Wright was accused of stealing Edgeworth's pocket money.
After completing his training under Mia Fey, Phoenix joins the Fey & Co. Law Offices as a defense attorney. However, shortly after his first case, Mia is murdered, after which Phoenix takes over the offices. For the next three years the offices were known as the Wright & Co. Law Offices where he worked out of, with Maya often helping as his assistant. Phoenix finally got his chance to "save" Edgeworth, finally meeting him in the courtroom. He managed to break Edgeworth's perfect record and successfully defend him in the murder of Hammond. After this, Edgeworth and Phoenix's friendship was renewed and the two of them come to each others aid many times after this.
Some time after the events of Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, Phoenix finds himself disbarred and unable to practice law after being tricked into presenting false evidence in a trial. After this he changes the law office into the Wright Talent Agency with he, and his newly adopted daughter Trucy, work out of. Phoenix works at a Russian restaurant called the Borscht Bowl Club where he plays piano. However, he isn't very good at playing and doesn't take requests. He does find himself with one talent though, playing Poker, and this is where Phoenix makes the majority of his money.

In the Old Bailey, Susato and Naruhodo were very surprised to see that Mael Stronghart was now the judge of the trial. He explained that the trial had rocked the English justice system to its core, the jury flames lit themselves. The gallery only included members of the legal system, van Zieks called them Stronghart's henchman. But Stronghart just said he's disappointed in him since he was a great prosecutor like Klimt, he uses his unicorn-shaped cane as the gavel and declared court to be in session.
Barok van Zieks said he never killed anyone physically nor using orders. He's been investigating the Death Bringer for years and his attention fell on Gregson, which was how he became the defendant of his murder. The detective and Dr. Wilson were not connected to van Zieks, so he couldn't have plotted the assassin exchange. Naturally, Kazuma Asogi thinks he's lying and doesn't understand Naruhodo why he's defending him. But the defense had learned that you can't ever hide the truth, so he conducts his cross-examination.
It is revealed that the victim, detective Tobias Gregson, had a mission he was hiding from the yard in the following day. His accomplice was Everyday Mittlemont, who pretended to be the detective so the former can have an alibi. Then came the possibility that Gregson was murdered the day before the incident. Kazuma Asogi revealed that the claim was correct when he visited the coroner, he hands over an updated autopsy report, at first Stronghart won't accept it as he sees no ice box in London that could freeze the body. Asogi suggests he was murdered in the middle of his mission, he shall begin with the reports from Scotland Yard's investigation.
Yujin said they need to hurry or else they'll end up in Italy. Jigoku's cabin was number two, but the first mate, Mapotov Stroganov, was blocking the cabin door. Sholmes notices that Stroganov had a badly written "Sholmes" on his arm, and as a result, the detective concludes that he must be a fan, and states that he will perform a deduction for him. He declares that Mapotov had a brother who was sailing the world on a Russian steamship. Stroganov was very surprised. He said that Jigoku was not aboard when Mikotoba explained the situation, and that he disembarked at Dunkirk to two hours ago to take care of something. Stroganov was ordered to not have anyone allowed in his cabin, but Sholmes reminds Mikotoba that he can pick any lock with just a little time. Mikotoba tries to pretend to be a Japanese mouse in the mouse trap to catch Stroganov's attention, as well as turn off the lights. Both attempts failed, but when he presses the alarm to make Stroganov talk to the captain, Sholmes manages to open the door.
Yujin Mikotoba took the stand along with Sithe's daughter, Maria Goulloyne, who tagged along, Stronghart said her mother couldn't be a because of what she had done. Yujin agreed that he assisted Dr. Wilson despite Goulloyne saying Sithe was better, she was the second assistant so she couldn't see the surgery properly.
Barricade was surprised since the Professor case was already cleared up, but with the fake death and escape Naruhodo thinks otherwise. Kazuma said there may be capital punishment if it was Barricade who helped Genshin escape. Mael Stronghart said Kazuma shouldn't badger the witnesses and told Barricade to take care of his statements.
Deduction is the art of logic. It doesn't matter if you're "right" or "wrong". — Tokyo Game Show 2014 trailer. Herlock Sholmes was a legendary English detective known for his rapid-fire abductive reasoning and deductions.
Herlock Sholmes met Naruhodo and Susato again during his investigations at the Garridebs ' flat, as well as during the reading of Soseki Natsume 's books. Natsume had been accused of stabbing a woman named Viridian Green on Briar Road. He initially had incorrect deductions, but Naruhodo, with the Dance of Deduction, helped to prove that the Garridebs had an argument on the night of Viridian Green's attack. It was during this time that Sholmes invited the exchange students to remain in his flat, to which they used it as a makeshift law office.
Herlock Sholmes has been noted by many to be a very eccentric individual, to the point of annoyance. Fans of his stories such as Susato have also noted that he seems very different than what they expected from reading the books. At times very forgetful, Sholmes sometimes seems to not understand what is going on at all, and can give deductions that do not even come close to being correct. He is shown to be both frustrated and entertained by his own words, leading one to question what he is truly thinking. He has the habit of getting on others nerves, usually Tobias Gregson, but this can extend to the targets of his deductions as well.
The following day, Sholmes arrived to the Bandol hotel and eavesdropped on a conversation between his former partner Yujin and Naruhodo, where he found out that Ann Sasha was the one responsible for the killing of John H. Wilson.
Van Zieks's bench attitude was dominated by a contradictory mix of imperturbable refinement and theatrics. He was extremely unflappable, rarely showing any sign of distress until late in a trial, and even then his reactions were quite muted. Though interested more in finding the truth than his win record, he did not cut the defense any slack. He had a wry sense of humor and often used snark at the expense of the defense, their assistants, and any other witnesses he found bothersome. He became notably upset when someone he trusted betrayed him. He did appear to have some sort of soft spot, as he personally ensured that a witness who had tampered with a crime scene to make an anniversary date kept his job.
Barok van Zieks was a legendary English prosecutor. He was known as the "Grim Reaper of the Old Bailey " due to the fact that all defendants that he had prosecuted would supposedly wind up dying in some way or another, regardless of their innocence or guilt. This "curse" eventually led to a five-year leave of absence.
His surname van Zieks may be a pun on the term banjikyūsu (万事休す) meaning "there is nothing more that can be done; it's all over ". van Zieks by itself can also be translated to "of the sick" in Dutch, possibly if unintentionally referencing the Grim Reaper's emergence as a psychopomp during the Black Plague; such fits well with van Zieks' "god of death" persona.
In response, the people of London spread the rumor that the Grim Reaper, the force said to be causing the deaths, was actually the ghost of Klimt van Zieks attached to Barok.
Again, van Zieks prosecuted against Naruhodo and lost, after it was revealed that Windibank was murdered by Robert Crogley.
Six months after Lestrade's trial, van Zieks prosecuted another case against Naruhodo. The scientist and his own former fellow university student Albert Harebrayne was accused of murdering his volunteer, Odie Asman. The victim was also prosecuted by van Zieks a month prior, but he bribed the jury to get acquitted.
Shu Takumi conceived of Barok van Zieks as a prosecutor who could make sure that his defendants could not escape, even under a 19th-century jury trial setting. To fulfill this concept, Takumi came up with the "curse" and subsequent "god of death" persona.
