Other Essex County, New Jersey exonerations. On March 9, 1988, 22-year-old Vincent Ross was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Newark, New Jersey. In May 1989, Ross went to trial in Essex County Superior Court. The prosecution told the jury that the girl was the daughter of a woman who was living with Ross’s girlfriend.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. On June 25, 1991, the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court vacated the conviction and ordered a new trial.
