According to that same leaked roadmap, Ace Attorney 7 was planned to launch in Q3 2021. However, that same document also listed Great Ace Attorney for a Q1 2021 launch and that released on July 27, 2021. Ace Attorney, known in Japan as Gyakuten Saiban (逆転裁判#N#,#N#lit. Turnabout Trial?), is a series of visual novel adventure video games, created by Shu Takumi, and developed and published by Capcom. The games has players assume the role of a defense attorney who defends their clients in a fictional courtroom setting (which is loosely based on the real-life Japanese court system); they find the truth by cross-examining witnesses and finding inconsistencies between the testimonies and the evidence they have collected during their investigations. The cases all last a maximum of three days, with the judge determining the outcome based on evidence presented by the defense attorney and the prosecutor.
Gyakuten Saiban Orchestra cover, art by Kazuya Nuri. While the original Japanese versions of the games are set in Japan, the series' localizations are set in the United States, though retaining Japanese cultural influence.
The lawyers' signature mannerisms, such as finger-pointing and cries of "Objection!", have become well-known, and have been parodied in pop culture such as episodes of several anime series. Apollo and Klavier Gavin make a cameo appearance in the anime adaptation of Lucky Star.
To do so, they cross-examine witnesses, and aim to find lies and inconsistencies in the testimonies. They are able to go back and forth between the different statements in the testimony, and can press the witness for more details on a statement.

Distressed and confused by all that had happened to him, Edgeworth wrote an apparent suicide note reading, « Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death. » A bellboy discovered this note as Edgeworth left America to find out what being a prosecutor truly meant.
The transition from portable devices to consoles hasn’t hurt the quality of the Ace Attorney Trilogy, which remain some of my favorite games of all time. Phoenix Wright and company are deserving of the big screen, and this game is well worth your time if you haven’t gotten around to playing it elsewhere.
Miles Edgeworth, is the central antagonist and deuteragonist of the Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban/Turnabout Trial in Japan) series of visual novel adventure video games. He is the main protagonist and player character and rival of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, and Gyakuten Kenji 2/Prosecutor’s Path.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy casts you as the titular Phoenix Wright, a novice defense attorney in a criminal justice system stacked heavily in favor of prosecutors. Because of a staggering backlog in court cases, once a person is arrested and charged, their trial takes place the next day. Not only that, but trials have a maximum of three days. “Innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t have much of a place here, and there’s no jury. Everything is down to the whim of the judge.
Let’s make a few things clear. First, the Ace Attorney games are most commonly described as visual novels, but don’t let that put you off. While there’s a lot of reading involved, there’s much more to the gameplay than going through text and making a decision every 15 minutes. There are more significant similarities to point-and-click adventures than anything else, if only because of the amount of puzzling you’ll be doing.
When not writing about games, Tim can occasionally be found speedrunning terrible ones, making people angry in Dota 2, or playing something obscure and random. He's also weirdly proud of his status as (probably) the Isle of Man's only professional games journalist.
The agreed-upon crown jewel of the Ace Attorney series, Trials and Tribulations allowed players to act as three different attorneys throughout the game while also bringing back important characters that make sense in the plot, rather than “just because." If being able to play as Mia Fey wasn't enough to earn first place on this list, then Phoenix Wright's college backstory most certainly is.
In this game, players act as a new character, Apollo Justice, representing a passing of the torch from Phoenix to his “apprentice” figure. This signalled that Phoenix’s saga had come to a close (or so it seemed to indicate), and players were able to see characters grow and evolve during the 7 years that had passed since the last game.
Another hidden gem of the Ace Attorney series, many have played Ace Attorney Investigations 2 through the outstanding fan translation available online. Not only is this another Japanese-exclusive game in the series, but it also stands out as another sequel better than the original.
With many fans expecting a sequel to Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (and many fans disliking the new character), Capcom took a very different route. The first main series game on the 3DS, Dual Destinies arguably has one of the most fantastic soundtracks for a 3DS game, with renowned composer Noriyuki Iwadare at his best.
Justice For All is a worthy sequel to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, though it excels in different ways than its predecessor. The intrigue of Edgeworth's disappearance combined with the introduction of a new Von Karma creates a curiosity that can only be sated by pouring over every word of the game. Akemi Kimura does a phenomenal job composing music for every mood and scenario, leaving a lasting impression for weeks afterward.
The cases feel more engaging and exciting, and alongside the excellent soundtrack, stands as another masterpiece by Shu Takumi.
The only main series characters that make an appearance Phoenix and Maya (and Edgeworth, briefly.) Neverthe less, this game is a worthy tribute to both series, with wonderfully-crafted 3D models and excellent music throughout.

The series was created by Shu Takumi, who wrote and directed the first three games. The first game was conceived in 2000 when Takumi's boss at the time, Shinji Mikami, gave him six months to create any type of game he wanted to; Takumi had originally joined Capcom wanting to make mystery and adventure games, and felt that this was a big chance for him to make a mark as a creator…
The localization of the first game was outsourced to Bowne Global, and was handled by the writer Alexander O. Smithand the editor Steve Anderson. While the Japanese version takes place in Japan, the localized version is set in the United States: because one of the episodes involves time zones, they had to specify where the game takes place, and chose the United States without thinking a lot about it. The Japanese justice system of the original still remained intact in the loc…
The Ace Attorney series has been well received by critics, and has performed well commercially: in December 2009, it was Capcom's 9th-best-selling series of all time, and in October 2010, they called it one of their "strongest intellectual properties", with more than 3.9 million units sold worldwide. By December 2013, the series had sold over 5 million units. In the United States, the first game became surprisingly successful, forcing Capcom to prepare at least three additional r…
