Active attorneys and attorneys registered for corporate status must complete 24 hours of accredited CLE activities every two years. Fulltime, part-time, retired judges, and magistrates must complete 40 hours of accredited CLE activities. Acting judges must complete 24 hours of accredited CLE activities every two years.
25 hoursWith a few exceptions, all attorneys who are actively practicing law in California must complete 25 hours of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) every three years and file a report with the State Bar.
Experienced Illinois Attorneys must complete 30 CLE credit hours (including 6 in Professional Responsibility credits) every two years. Of the 6 Professional Responsibility credits, at least 1 must be in Diversity and Inclusion, and at least 1 must be in Mental Health and Substance Abuse.
Attorneys can carry over up to 12 excess General CLE credits to the following biennial reporting cycle. Self-study courses (e.g. live webcast, on demand, etc.) and Professional Conduct CLE credits cannot be carried over.
In the Supreme Court's Rules for the Government of the Bar of Ohio and the Rules for the Judiciary of Ohio, self-study credits are limited to 12 hours. Lawyers must complete 24 hours of CLE every two years. For judges, it's 40 hours.
The last day to complete your mandatory California bar association CLE requirements is January 31 and the reporting deadline is February 1. Because California is a self-reporting CLE state, CA attorneys must self-report CA CLE compliance through "My State Bar Profile" on the State Bar of California website.

Each CLE credit hour is based on 60 minutes of instruction. Programs must be at least 60 minutes to qualify. Hours are rounded to the nearest quarter of an hour. Some states base a credit hour on 50 minutes rather than 60.
For a solo speaker, the attorney will receive 4 to 1 credit and panel presentations receive 3 to 1 credit. For example, a solo speaker whose presentation is 1.25 hours will receive 5 CLE hours for that presentation.
After an attorney has earned the 12 hour requirement for the current reporting period, they may earn additional hours up to a maximum of 11 general and 1 ethics hour to apply to the next reporting period. Anything over this amount is removed when the current reporting period ends.
The deadline to return that form without penalty is October 31 of each year. Forms returned after October 31 require payment of a $25 late filing fee.
A provider or an attorney may submit an application along with a timed agenda to this office for review. If the program is already accredited in another state or jurisdiction, documentation confirming that fact along with the attorneys completed certificate of attendance can also be used for approval.
