It is best to drive several miles away (at least 3) to release the squirrels so that they cannot find their way back into your home and their nest. Although relocating the squirrel is the easiest method, it may not be the most humane.
First of all you need to relocate squirrel to a place that should be present at a distance of at least 10 miles from your house because one has to ensure that after releasing squirrel should not get in a position of finding its way back to your home.

Most of the returnees could be trapped again, although it usually took longer. A zig-zag pattern within that local mile or two makes no real difference to the normal, healthy squirrel, especially the males. Their perception of distance is different from ours and they usually have no problem getting back.

It is illegal to release a trapped grey squirrel into the wild or to keep a grey squirrel in captivity. Any grey squirrel caught must be humanely destroyed. Drowning cannot be used as method of control as it is inhumane and can lead to prosecution. There is no legal requirement to check live capture traps.
Cover at least part of the cage so the squirrel has an area protected from rain. Place the cage in a safe area, away from places subjected to harsh weather conditions or predators, and place the squirrel inside the cage. Leave the squirrel in the cage for three weeks.
If there's squirrels in the attic, there is probably a nest of baby squirrels up there. If squirrels are chewing, trapping won't stop new ones from doing the same. The situation is often more complex than simply setting out a cage trap and removing the animals.

Urine of predators can be purchased online or in some retail stores and placed near the nest. If a squirrel smells the urine and believes a predator is present, it may leave. Try soaking an old towel in the urine for easy cleanup.
If you see squirrels in the home, do your best to remove all of them before sealing the entry points. Leaving a squirrel to die in a home causes additional problems, such as disease and odor, so if you’ve personally witnessed squirrels in your home, it may be time to call a professional.

The "wildlife preserve" is an old 300 acre farm that they let go wild and put some hiking trails on it. They aren't trying to encourage any growth or habitat, just give the city folks a reason to come out my way.
