Kristoph Gavin (牙琉 霧人, Garyū Kirihito, his given name in the Japanese version is an anagram for the word hitokiri, which means "assassin") is the main antagonist of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. He is Klavier 's older brother, Apollo's former mentor and Phoenix's acquaintance for many years.

Main article: Phoenix Wright. Phoenix Wright (成歩堂 龍一, Naruhodō Ryūichi) is a defense attorney and the main character of the franchise, and the protagonist in all games in the main series, except for Apollo Justice. In his childhood, he befriended Larry Butz and Miles Edgeworth.
Maya Fey (綾里 真宵, Ayasato Mayoi) is a spirit medium and the younger sister of Phoenix's boss, Mia Fey. Maya is introduced in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, in which she is accused of her sister's murder and defended by Phoenix. She becomes his legal assistant and investigates cases with him in the first three Ace Attorney games. Maya cheerily banters with Phoenix during investigations, and can channel her sister's spirit when Phoenix needs her help. She does not appear in the fourth and fifth games, but returns in the sixth, reuniting with Phoenix in Khura'in as she prepares to complete her channeling training. Maya also appears in other franchise media: the manga, film, anime series, and the spin-off games including the Professor Layton crossover and Ace Attorney Investigations. Maya, alongside Phoenix, also makes cameo appearances in several games across other genres.
Manfred von Karma (狩魔 豪, Karuma Gō) is the main antagonist of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. He is a meticulous, ruthless prosecutor who is known for having a perfect record of getting all guilty sentences in every case.
Miles Edgeworth (御剣 怜侍, Mitsurugi Reiji) is Phoenix Wright's long-time friend and first rival in the court room. He is temporarily playable in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials and Tribulations and the main player character in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Ace Attorney Investigations 2. As a child, Edgeworth aspired to become a defense attorney, following in his father Gregory Edgeworth's footsteps. When they were children, Edgeworth successfully defended Phoenix in a classroom trial, where Phoenix was accused of stealing lunch money from Edgeworth himself. However, upon witnessing his father's death and watching in horror as the suspected murderer was let free, he gained a hatred for criminals and began studying to be a prosecutor, learning tactics from his mentor Manfred von Karma to always get a "guilty" verdict. This later earned him the name "demon prosecutor". Miles had not lost a case he was involved with until his first trial against Phoenix, after which he felt a need to defeat Phoenix.
Pearl Fey (綾里 春美, Ayasato Harumi) is Morgan's youngest daughter and Mia and Maya's cousin, who is introduced towards the start of the second game in the series, Justice for All and appears again as a major character in Trials and Tribulations. She is considered a prodigy in the practice of channeling the spirits of the dead. She rarely leaves Kurain Village. She speaks in a polite and sophisticated manner for a girl of her age, calling Phoenix "Mr. Nick" and referring to Maya as "Mystic Maya". Pearl Fey charged Maya's magatama with mystical powers and gave it to Phoenix Wright, allowing for the in-game mechanic of breaking "Psyche-Locks," a kind of outside-of-trial cross-examination whereby he detects lies and secrets. In Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, she reappears in a DLC case, working at an aquarium. In another DLC non-canon case called "Asinine Attorney" added for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, she appears taking vacation in Khu'rain. She also claims to the royal priestess of Khu'rain and soon becomes the priestess of Khu'rain.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a compilation of both Adventures and Resolve to be released in July 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows. This will be the first time both games are officially available outside of Japan.
Ace Attorney is a series of adventure video game legal dramas developed by Capcom. The first entry in the series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, was released in 2001; since then, five further main series games, as well as various spin-offs and high-definition remasters for newer game consoles, have been released.
The series currently consists of six main series games and five spin-offs.
In the spin-off series Ace Attorney Investigations, the player takes the role of prosecutor Miles Edgeworth and in the prequel series The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, of Phoenix's ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo. The series was created by the writer and director Shu Takumi.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Justice for All was originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002 in Japan; it has also been released for the Nintendo DS in 2006, Microsoft Windows in 2008, the Wii in 2010, and iOS in 2012.
Later games expand upon the character of Larry Butz, but most fans will never forget their first encounter with Phoenix Wright's childhood friend and first client. Larry is accused of murdering his girlfriend in "The First Turnabout," but the loveable goof has been framed.
"Turnabout Samurai" has Phoenix Wright defending accused murderer Will Powers, also known as TV's Steel Samurai, by investigating the show's production studio. While this unique case has plenty of memorable characters, Will stands out as an imposing figure with an incredibly sweet and gentle personality.
The chief of police featured in "Rise From The Ashes," Damon Gant is remembered as a majorly charismatic presence and terrifying villain with one of the best breakdowns in the franchise. As Lana Skye's partner, he blackmailed her into helping him plant evidence and hide the victims of his murders.
Although he is mostly associated with prosecutors, homicide detective Dick Gumshoe is a major friend and ally to Phoenix throughout his exploits, as well. Gumshoe is known in the first game as the kindly, bumbling detective who helps Phoenix's investigations and buys him dinner at the end of the final case.
Phoenix Wright's mentor and all-around beloved character Mia Fey dies pretty early on in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney during "Turnabout Sisters." Her legacy lives on through flashbacks and spirit channeling appearances in later games, although she was a fan favorite from the beginning.
Even though her sister Lana was a one-off character, this charismatic young forensics expert became a regular character after her appearance in "Rise From The Ashes." Ema is loyal to Lana during the older sister's murder trial, and the young Ema becomes one of Phoenix's most memorable assistants besides Maya.
Setting a high standard for Ace Attorney 's villains, Manfred von Karma's influence has encompassed several characters in the series. In "Turnabout Goodbyes," Phoenix faces off with this imposing prosecutor in the courtroom before revealing the depth of his crimes to the world.
Winston Payne — Brings his arm up with a shocked expression on his face while his hair is blown away. At this, he screams about his 'beautiful hair' flying off.
Frank Sahwit — Suddenly grabs his toupée and throws it at Phoenix Wright 's face, which then slides off in a comical fashion to reveal Wright's unimpressed facial expression. After Sahwit is revealed as the true murderer, he begins to hyperventilate, frothing at the mouth before finally collapsing to the ground.
April May — Her breakdown is the same as the game (crossing her arms and screaming, and revealing an aggressive face). The only difference being that only one of her buttons is reversed.
Terry Fawles — After swallowing the poison in his hand, he begins coughing until a trickle of blood flows out of his mouth. After a while, he falls dead on the witness stand.
Kristoph Gavin — When revealed to have killed Shadi Smith, he looks aside as the courtroom shakes around him. He then slowly raises his fist in the air while the courtroom continues to shake and the dishes and lobster Olga Orly was carrying in her disguise levitate behind him. Suddenly he slams his fist on the witness stand, making the levitating objects fall and the shaking cease. Finally, he clenches his fist on the stand. When he learns that the court will be using a Jurist System designed by Phoenix Wright to deliver the verdict for his second murder, he hunches over the witness stand, his mouth twitching. He once again raises his fist, while the courtroom shakes, before slamming it onto the witness stand, clenching it just like the previous time. He then crosses his arms in front of him, roars Wright's name, his glasses fly off and his hair billows above him. He then hunches over on the stand, arms crossed, and glares with a manic look in his eyes while his normally well-kept hair is now disheveled, his face twitching even more than before. Finally, after an innocent verdict was given for Vera Misham, Gavin cackles insanely with his hand over his face, and is taken away.
Olga Orly — Yells then slowly falls backwards, while her dishes and the lobster fall down in order onto the witnesses stand. Later, she drops her timid Russian guise, swiftly pulling off the coat and hat to reveal a pirate-themed costume. When finally defeated, she yells while her camera goes off and the dishes and lobster fall slowly behind her.
Jacques Portsman — Rapidly bites on the medal around his neck, causing golden dust to fall in the background. After a few seconds of this, it breaks off its chain and he swallows it. He then faints.

Winston Payne (亜内 武文#N#,#N#Auchi Takefumi?) is a prosecutor that generally starts off with a strong case for the prosecution, but can be quickly demoralized when the defense attorney finds holes in the evidence. Payne is smug, and seems to enjoy mocking young attorneys, earning him the nickname "Rookie Killer". He serves as the first prosecutor the player goes against in all four games. He also makes a cameo in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth in the first case, in which he offers his help, but Miles cannot seem to remember who he is (he thinks that "Mr. Payne" is the name of the building custodian). Payne is characterized by his thick glasses and his shrill, high-pitched voice. In his first appearance he wears a gray suit and red tie, and has thin, wispy hair. For his return in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney he wears a bright pea-green suit and has grown his hair out on the sides. In his appearance in Trials and Tribulations, he was shown to have had a pompadour hairstyle in his younger days, but the stress and humiliation of losing his first case (to Mia Fey, a rookie at the time) was too much for him to handle, reducing him to his thin, wispy hair. His English name is a pun of the phrase "Winced in Pain" (which he often does when he is humiliated in court) with his Japanese surname being a pun on the English word 'ouchie'.
Phoenix Wright (成歩堂 龍一#N#,#N#Naruhodō Ryūichi?) is a defense attorney and the protagonist of the first three games, as well as being a secondary character in Apollo Justice. In his childhood, he befriended Larry Butz and Miles Edgeworth. He was accused of murder while studying in college, but was successfully defended by Mia Fey. He eventually joined up with Mia's office. After Mia was murdered, Phoenix inherited the office, renaming it "Wright and Co.", and continued his work as a defense attorney. He is typically seen wearing a blue suit with a white shirt and red tie. In the courtroom, Phoenix was known for wildly guessing at the truth, allowing him to "turnabout" the court to his favor.
Miles Edgeworth (御剣 怜侍#N#,#N#Mitsurugi Reiji?) is Phoenix Wright's long time friend and first rival in the court room. He is playable in Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations and is the main protagonist of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Gyakuten Kenji 2. Miles has not lost a case he was involved with until his first trial against Phoenix, after which he felt a need to defeat Phoenix. After Phoenix successfully defended Miles in a murder accusation from his former mentor, Miles recognized that prosecutors and defense attorneys need to be partners in discovering the truth. He disappeared for a long period of time on a journey of self-discovery and returned to help Phoenix on some of his more difficult cases, including stepping in as the defense attorney when Phoenix was ill and bedridden. He is usually seen wearing a vintage-style maroon suit with a black vest, white shirt and cravat. In Trials and Tribulations he is shown wearing a more elaborate jacket with gold braid during his first trial against Mia Fey. This jacket is later seen framed on the wall of his office in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. A running gag is that Edgeworth is usually unable to get his witnesses to state their names and occupations. Also, in both the manga and the games, it is implied that he is a closet Steel Samurai fan. He also has a phobia of earthquakes and elevators, due to the incident in which his father was murdered (DL-6). He also has his fair share of female fans, especially Wendy Oldbag, an older lady who is apparently obsessed with him, much to his chagrin.
Misty Fey (綾里 舞子#N#,#N#Ayasato Maiko?) is the mother of Mia and Maya, and was the former Master of Kurain Village. She was asked to assist in the DL-6 case, but the results of her actions proved to be untrue; as a result, she disappeared for several years, though remained aware of her daughters' lives. When she learned of Morgan Fey 's plot to displace Maya from the Kurain Village Master through Godot, she came out of hiding, disguised as children's book author "Elise Deauxnim", and sacrificed herself to save Maya's life.
Pearl Fey (綾里 春美#N#,#N#Ayasato Harumi?) is Morgan 's youngest daughter. Though still young, her channeling ability is very strong. She rarely leaves Kurain Village, and is awed by the big city when she visits Maya. She is very polite to everyone she meets, calling Phoenix "Mr. Nick" and referring to Maya as "Mystic Maya" (in turn, Phoenix and Maya affectionately refer to her as "Pearls" or "Pearly.") She believes that Phoenix and Maya are romantically interested in each other, and gets angry if Phoenix does anything she believes would upset Maya. Maya reveals that growing up in Kurain Village has a huge number of unsuccessful marriages, which Pearl is curious of. She charges Phoenix's magatama that he got from Maya, allowing him to see Psyche-Locks within people's hearts.
Dick Gumshoe (糸鋸 圭介#N#,#N#Itonokogiri Keisuke?) is a police detective from the homicide division. He is often the head detective overseeing the crime, and provides evidence and his opinion both during the investigation phase and while on the witness stand during the trial phases. A running joke throughout the series is his salary—he constantly finds himself in dire financial straits due to his unconventional style of detective work and the trouble that it puts him in with his superiors, most notably with Franziska von Karma —at one point Miles Edgeworth actually tells him "This is exactly why your salary keeps on getting cut!" after making an embarrassing mistake. He develops a love interest in Maggey Byrde. Gumshoe's signature dirty green-brown overcoat is replaced by a new one (which he refers to as his non-important coat) in the Trials and Tribulations story, but makes a return in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth .
