Filming started in Navarre on 3 March 2020. Shooting locations included the Monastery of Irache in Navarre, San Sebastián, Hondarribia, Lazkao, Usurbil, Ergoien, Bilbao, Anglet and sets in the Zinealdea complex in Oiartzun.

Disclaimer: At the time of this writing, I have only watched the first 5 seasons. I literally could not stop watching to the point that is was becoming a problem, so I’ve taken a hiatus until after school starts.
16-year old Marcos and his 6-year old sister, Paula, arrive at the Laguna Negra boarding school after their parents disappear in a boating accident and are presumed dead. Hector de la Vega, the school principal becomes their legal guardian.
The plot can be a little wild at times, but everything connects and makes sense in the end. There are some moments you just have to accept in order to get the full enjoyment out of this show.
The acting is surprisingly good. This is NOT a telenovela. That said, some of the actors are better than others. Most of the time, Marcos and Hector both walk around looking like they just smelled a fart. And, Carolina’s eyes are so WIDE all the time. But, for the most part the actors’ reactions are spot on. My favorite performance is Ivan.
While the production is well done, it is nothing special. It is not a telenovela, so there isn’t that amateur feel to the camera. It is a dark show and that is reflected in how it was filmed. There are some really nice shots especially of the outside and around the stairs.
I left off the .5 stars just because there were a few moments that made me cringe. In retrospect, I can see how these things worked for the plot, but at the time, they just seemed too grievous to ignore. Nevertheless, AWESOME show.
At the moment, the whole series is available on Netflix, with English subtitles. Sometimes the translation is a little off: anywhere from “he” instead of “she” to “It’s empty” instead of “I can’t look.” Yeah. But mostly the translation was fine and I think that non-Spanish speakers shouldn’t have a problem.
