The children of Israel needed to be proven in fighting battles. This generation wasn’t proven. The writer identified the nations of Canaan that God would leave in the land because of Israel’s folly.
The writer identified the nations of Canaan that God would leave in the land because of Israel’s folly. The folly was the league or covenant they made with the Gibeonites. These nations were namely the five lords of the Philistines. In addition to the Philistines, the Canaanites, Sidonians, and the Hivites were also there.
For this, God brought the king of Mesopotamia (Abraham’s original homeland) and made Israel serve this king eight years (he has a really long name, we’ll just call him the king of Mesopotamia).
God wanted to know if Israel was going to listen to Him under all circumstances or if they were going to bail out to the next new thing or god that came their way. Well, we all have the answer today. They gave their daughters in marriages to these nations and took their daughters in.
This is the summary of Judges chapter 3, glory to the Highest!
Ehud and Shamgar, Judges in Israel. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Othniel and he fought for and judged Israel. The land had rest for 40 years, then Othniel died. Once Othniel passed, the children of Israel went right back to doing evil.
They once again cried out to the LORD for mercy and help. God again sent them a deliverer. This time a Benjamite, who was left-handed, his name was Ehud. He went and killed the “fat” king of Moab. This king was very fat, according to record, showing there were fat people in the old and ancient days.
Ehud slew Eglon and then killed 10,000 Moabites at the fords of the Jordan. So the land had rest for 80 years (verses 20-30). During his leadership, Israel remained faithful to God (Judges 3:12 – 4:1). The word that “deliverer” was translated from can and also means savior.
Judges 3:14 “So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.”
(See the note on 1:19). The Israelites failed God’s test, being enticed into (1) Marriages with Canaanites; and (2) Worship of their gods.
Either the Lord gathered them to Eglon, inclined them to enter into a confederacy with him, to assist in the war against Israel. Or the king of Moab got them to join with him in it, they being his neighbors, and enemies to Israel, and especially Amalek.
Disobedience was repeated frequently through the centuries, and led God to use the Assyrians (2 Kings Chapter 17 ), and Babylonians (2 Kings Chapters 24 and 25), to expel them from the land gained here. God had distinctly forbidden them to marry these people.
Judge s 20:16 “Among all this people [there were] seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at a hair [breadth], and not miss.”
Verses 3:7 – 16:31: The heart of the Book of Judges is the “cycles” section , which tells the stories of Israel’s rebellion and God’s deliverance. Together, these cycles form a downward spiral as the quality of the deliverers and their leadership deteriorates.
A letter arrives at the office from Séverin saying that he has either been captured or killed the previous night during his investigation of the Croc-Monsieur. You set off to save Séverin, despite his possible already-occurred death. The letter mentioned the Rue des Marmousets, so that's where you begin.
Go to Rue des Marmousets. Examine bloodstain in alley. Enter Notre Dame. Bribe Kwark with money, use box of chocolates as gift, or intimidate him. Pick any route.
You have two days to investigate the photographer's studio and the scene of the crime; these can be done in any order. If you visit La Conciergerie during this time, Kwark will turn you away as visiting hours are over. Returning to the A.A. Offices causes Sparrowson to prompt you back to investigating.
She lets all three of you go free, and has Pierro and Fontaine guide you out. Beaumort stays behind to get the truth out of the wolf brothers. They want a world without class or religion, where only reason reigns, like Beaumort's rebellion, but they believe it's only achievable with violence.
Falcon shows up late to the Aviary Attorney office and receives a letter from Seigneur Purrtoir Demiaou asking for legal help for his daughter, Dame Caterline, wrongly accused of murder. Your assistant, Sparrowson, asks if you'll be taking the case. If you respond "Of course!" you will proceed to La Conciergerie, the prison where Caterline Demiaou is being held. If you choose "Nope" Sparrowson will challenge you to a game of Jacques-noir (Blackjack) where you try to get closer to 21 when drawing cards than the dealer. Sparrowson will always win, and you'll head over to La Conciergerie anyway.
To get ending 4A, stay silent and let Beaumort shoot Séverin.
If you go back after talking to Neighthan, Silvius and Remus will be there arguing. Silvius returns Remus's green pen, which he borrowed since he lost his own. Falcon asks Remus about the catacombs and Remus mentioned another bird came by asking about secret entrances - a prosecuting rooster. He dismisses you with a threat and leaves. Sparrowson does manage to steal the fountain pen from Remus and add it to your evidence folder.
