Redding, CA (September 12, 2020) – A 59-year-old pilot died in a plane crash at Benton Airpark on August 27, Thursday.

Emergency teams rushed to the site and rescued the occupants of the plane. Sadly, the pilot, identified as 59-year-old Michael Barry Garrett of Redding, was killed in the accident.

The accident was reported to RPD by individuals who called in about hearing a nearby explosion or possible collision on the north side of the Airpark.

According to RPD, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would handle the investigation into possible causes of this accident. RPD stated that there were “several witnesses” to the accident and that officers would be working in the near future to gather their statements about the crash. Additionally, the FAA stated that they would be releasing the tail number of the involved aircraft as soon as it was verified.
