Program Director

Working at a small nonprofit organization means doing whatever needs to be done. I love the fast-paced and challenging work on projects ranging from grant writing and white papers to organizing conferences and workshops.

Course Facilitator

After my internship, I saw the opportunity to improve graduate training to address the root causes of irreproducibility. I solicited buy-in from academic stakeholders and initiated course development in which I also taught lectures and facilitated discussions.

Graduate Student

In the lab of Dr. Stephen Desiderio, I characterized a novel inhibitory domain in RAG-2, part of the recombinase that forms antibody coding sequences. I used molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry to show the effects of a hyperactive recombinase.

Intern

I worked to identify experts to attend roundtable discussions of reproducibility and compiled an annotated bibliography of over 100 sources. This work resulted in guidelines on reproducibility from FASEB (http://tinyurl.com/FASEB-Reproducibility) and I also co-authored a commentary with FASEB leadership (Nature, doi: 10.1038/532177d).

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Used cellular biology and genetics to understand protein-protein interactions of an RNA processing protein. Contributed to the training of two fellow undergraduate students and exposing high school students to scientific research

An Autoregulatory Mechanism Imposes Allosteric Control on the V (D)J Recombinase by Histone H3 Methylation

The binding of H3K4me3 by the RAG2 PHD stimulates recombination activity and we identified an inhibitory domain in RAG2 that bypasses the normal requirement for H3K4me3 binding.
