Putting the burden of proof upon the prosecution means the point of trial is all about either proving or failing to prove that you're guilty of the crime that's been charged - not knowing whether or not you're actually guilty.
An important condition to this issue is that even if a client admits "guilt" to his or her lawyer, a lawyer may never truly be certain the client's guilty. The client could be lying to cover up for someone else, or other factors may be at play. There are standards in place to keep lawyers honest: they cannot lie if they do know information pertaining to their client's legal guilt, and they also cannot offer evidence they know is false. Logically speaking narcissist would make great lawyer because they don't mind hurting other people. They don't mind if their clients are lying or if they are lying about a case. They don't mind saying whatever they need to say or hurting whoever they need to hurt. Their objective is winning.

Attorney-client privilege is broad, because our justice system is based on clients being able to have open and frank communications with their attorneys.
That’s why an attorney should keep their personal feelings as far as possible from a case. Sure, bring them up when there’s passion to be had over the innocence of your client. But otherwise make it hell for prosecution until they’ve actually 100% demonstrated the guilt of your client, beyond any reasonable doubt.

We have an adversarial justice system. This means that a case is made and arguments are argued by advocates. This process presents two sides of the story – or two different stories – to a jury who ultimately decides whether someone is guilty and deserving of punishment.
We don’t take the word of the police because law enforcement has already made their case. We know that law enforcement makes mistakes and is subject to bias. Additionally, we know that interrogation techniques can lead to false confessions. We do our own investigations.

The defense attorney's job is to ensure that the prosecutor has demonstrated in court a case that the defendant is guilty in a way that meets the standard of proof. This is the check and balance against the prosecutors that protects people who are innocent.
A lawyer has to be impartial. They cannot think that client X (let's call him Jim) committed a murder if he denies it, even if Jim's prints are found on a gun. It could have been his hunting gun that was stolen by a robber and used in an unrelated murder, it could have been planted, or bad evidence, etc.
To paraphrase a famous quote: It is better to let 99 guilty people go free than to imprison 1 innocent person. In other words, criminal defence lawyers should do their very best to defend every accused they represent to help ensure that no innocent persons are wrongly convicted of a crime.
