Footage from a Texas state trooper's body camera showing a traffic stop on May 20, 2018, was released after he was falsely accused of sexual assault. A Texas woman could face charges for falsely accusing a state trooper of sexual assault who had arrested her for drunk driving, authorities said.
Sherita Dixon-Cole, 37, of Grapevine claimed a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper sexually assaulted her after she was pulled over on May 20, 2018.
In the YouTube description of the video, the Texas Department of Public Safety wrote it is "appalled that anyone would make such a despicable, slanderous and false accusation against a peace officer who willingly risks his life everyday to protect and serve the public."
Social activist and blogger Shaun King published an article which addressed Dixon-Cole's allegations. Skip to main content.
On Wednesday afternoon , King — a columnist for national security news site the Intercept — published an article on Mediumin part titled “When the ‘victim’ you fought for turns out to be the victimizer,” which addressed Dixon-Cole’s allegations.
Footage released by the Texas Department of Public Safety on May 22, showed driver Sherita Dixon-Cole being arrested for a DWI on May 20 in Ellis County, Tex. (Texas Department of Public Safety) By . Marwa Eltagouri.
But on Tuesday, the Texas Department of Safety released nearly two hours’ of body camera footage that starkly conflicted with Dixon-Cole’s claims. While parts of the video are blurred or inaudible to conceal Dixon-Cole’s personal information, it shows her being pulled over and asked to take a sobriety test. She’s then handcuffed and transported to the Ellis County jail, where she’s charged with a DWI. She was released Sunday night after posting bond.
It is not clear whether Dixon-Cole will face criminal charges for her accusations. Ellis County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Ann Montgomery said in a statement Thursday that the office is still investigating “exactly what was said, and to whom it was said.”
The story Dixon-Cole spun afterward was alarming: She claimed the trooper repeatedly told her he would let her go in exchange for sexual favors. When she said no, she claimed the trooper sexually assaulted her, according to a statement Monday from her attorney.
